I began my career in Human Resources working for a global engineering company where I had the opportunity to gain a lot of insight into the people side of managing a business. While participating in a human resources software implementation project I became aware of how critical technology can be in helping a company achieve its goals. I also realized that despite the prevalence of technology in our day-to-day work, a lot of companies still think of all things technical as some kind of black box. I immediately saw a unique opportunity for myself: be the enthusiastic communicator that I am with a flair for technology! However, at the time, a flair for technology was nowhere in sight as far as my resume was concerned.
In 2009 I decided to quit my job in HR and enroll in a business and technology certificate program. After putting in a ton of work, I achieved good grades and most importantly I was able to have an educated discussion about systems analysis and design.
I now work as a Business Analyst for a software company in Toronto, Canada called Medworxx. I get to work with a team of really cool Developers, Product Managers, Quality Assurance, and Support folks. I still don't see myself as a pure technology person but I think this role is a great fit for me because my primary responsibility is to bridge the gap between the business and technology side of the software development process. I also hope to apply the insights I learned about the people side of business by assuming a leadership role.
My job is to work with a talented team of Developers, Product Managers, and Quality Assurance Professionals to create software that helps hospitals be more efficient.
Using a creative and user-focused approach, I create product requirement documents for all of the company's applications (Content Management System, Learning Management System, Utilization Management System, Bed Optimization System).
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, I implemented a suite of employee training and development initiatives across Canada.
