Just got around to listening to Seth Godin/Penelope Trunk interview on the Brazen video vault. Loved this quote from Seth: "The second that people are able to describe what you do in detail, you're in trouble--because it means that your boss can find someone else to do the same thing for less money." http://gearsandshifts.com/2010/06/why-your-job-description/

"You should deliver two to three times the value as you ask from your network." This was a line in a book I read today by Chris brogan. Do you live and network by this philosophy? Do you find it difficult to put in the time it takes to build authentic connections with people? What are some ways that you add value to others? I have started putting this into practice by taking some time everyday to read, comment on, and link to others' blogs.

I do an online column and I get most of my comments directly - it's nice when they are posted to the website so people can feel like they are joining the conversation. Also, if I see something that's really helpful, I want to share that with my network! 101 weeks ago

Hey all, I'm launching a website, looking 2 build a community. It's mostly for book freaks like me, but professionals too. Site is bookmaniaonline and will have a Quiz, How to Tell if You Are a BookManiac. I will pick high score each wk/mo and award that person a pin. I want individuals to be BookManiacs, but what to call high score group? BookManiac Team, Nation, Club, Squad, Gang, Crew, Mob? Any suggestions appreciated...

Perhaps the BookWorm of the Week and create an interesting worm graphic/mascot image that would appear next to a person. Just an idea... 122 weeks ago

Within the last year, I've started using my scientific editing skills for friends who write fiction. One friend in particular also wants me to do publicity and marketing for her and I am trying but I find myself not having a cohesive plan of action and I have very few media contacts with which to align myself.
She self-published which also makes getting trade reviews difficult. Kirkus is the only one so far who would do it and they charge. So to get on B&N's shelves, we need at least one trade review.
I looked at your site and you have so much great experience. I wanted to see if you taught anything online but it doesn't look that way. If you would be interested in a mentorship of some kind (if you have any time to do something like that) or if you could recommend resources of information besides that one PR blog I saw on your site, I would greatly appreciate it. Just let me know.
I think you can send me a private message because I'm "your fan." So thanks in advance for any info you can give me!

Guys, just a note and I hope you'll spread the message around: please please please keep the "social" part of "social media" in mind when using it to promote yourself or your company... Do people understand the "social" part of "social media"? http://bit.ly/4taTaf

GREAT post on your blog. It still amazes me the number of DM's I get that are automated. What's social about that?! If you are serious about social media, then understand everything about it. Start a conversation or add to one. It's not that hard..
Thanks again!

Hey everyone. Check out this post about online communities - http://bit.ly/8mkjVF - It's a good reminder to keep things fresh and not let our own communities lose their luster. Enjoy!

Would love a meet-up... Could we be a little less Minneapolis-centric tho? I have joined a couple other networking groups and it's a bit tough for me to get to Crystal in rush hour. So maybe a New Year's thing in St. Paul?
