What makes a place date-worthy? If you were to start a food & drink establishment, would this be a consideration? Here in China, I think it is: http://tinyurl.com/26szz89 At least one of my friends disagrees. I am curious to hear what you think, especially if you have more experience with retail (or dates!) than I do.

How have teachers and textbooks shaped your worldview? I live in China, and my friend sent me a hilarious email describing the English textbook she uses to teach her boss. The textbook defines "communism" with more vigor than other vocabulary words. I wrote about this here: http://tinyurl.com/2fby4f9 Have you seen similar definitions in other parts of the world?

Does religion inspire or inhibit social change? In Kansas, an environmental group has chosen culturally relevant outreach tactics, such as "creation care" talking points for church sermons. In Kansas, a minister has persuaded his congregation to accept poverty, poor health, and powerlessness, rather than aspiring to live better lives. Religion is a diverse, murky, topic + I wrote about this here: http://tinyurl.com/279cu9k How has religion shaped your ideas about social change?

About Me

After earning a degree in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, I took the next logical step: I moved to China to teach English at a university near Shanghai.

For four of the next five years, I lived in Jiaxing, Shanghai, then Beijing and built up skills in many industries, including advertising, consulting, corporate social responsibility, energy, and teaching - all while learning Chinese.

By mid-2011, I was ready to pursue my interest in Latin America again, and a great opportunity came along. I moved to Santiago, Chile to join a solar energy startup and participate in Start-Up Chile, an entrepreneurship program of the Chilean government.

I founded Tricontinental Advisors to connect China, Chile, and California, especially in the areas of translation, training, trade, and tourism.

I have had the great fortune to give speeches in Spanish at events all over Chile, from the sand dunes in the far north to a fishing village in the south. This country is an entrepreneur's dream!

I invite you to read more about my ideas and adventures on my personal blog @ leslieforman.com.
