Reminds me of what I was told by an Alzheimer's caregiver:

"Have Alzheimer's? Meet new people every day! Do new things every day! Experience new things every day! Go new places every day! Have new adventures every day!"

Not politically correct, but given the grim daily life of a caregiver, a little humor is needed.

TOP IDEA: Timothy Johnson III I'm amazed at the awesome power that comes from networking - specifically, the way things start happening when you are 1.) genuinely interested in the things that people are doing and 2.) ask how you can help them in their endeavors. Try it! The results might astound you.

Jamie Nacht Farrell I'm always told I should have a "vision" for myself. Yet, I never have and it's led me to success - both professionally and personally. Is it necessary to have a "vision" of what you want in life? If so, does that vision have to include business and personal? And for women, is that "vision" harder to achieve based on the stereotypical 'role' of the mother in a household??? Interested in comments / especially from those who have achieved this; http://bit.ly/dovcmj

Mike Ambassador Bruny I recently had a conversation with a professor about being an entrepreneur and how many people focus on creating just based on what they want to create instead of focusing on what is needed in the world/market. How did you build your business? Was it based on a need of the outside world or just what you felt like creating?

There are four sections in Dale Carnegie's book, the one about "Being a leader- changing people's attitudes and behaviors" has nine points:
Begin with praise and honest appreciation
Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly
Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person
Ask questions instead of giving direct orders
Let the other person save face
Praise the slightest improvement
Give them a fine reputation to live up to
Use encouragement, make the fault seem easy to correct
Make them happy to do what you suggest

The book goes into detail about exactly how to do these things using real life examples. These principles apply in every situation!

Kayla Zajec This morning I received a call from my old boss. I disclosed this with a colleague of mine. His face looked repulsed. The entire time I have known this colleague, he has been very focused on the importance of relationships. I was a bit shocked at his reaction. His exact words were, “he left, he is dead to me.” Just because an individual chooses to change companies for his or her own needs does not remove that individual from any frame of reference. Or does it? http://kaylapurereflections.com

You might not be fully aware of their relationship, but granted, that is a strange thing to say. I have "burned bridges" as they say and have not regretted it. In my case, an old boss was often badgering and abusive. I will never say anything bad about him in public (since he is a very public figure), but I saw no reason to keep responding to his texts, emails or stay friends with him on Facebook. I think that's where I draw the line. I'll do what's good for me in private, but won't speak badly about someone in public.

My bosses knew this and I respected them despite how long it took for them to let this manager go (loong after I left the company). However, I maintained my relationships with those two bosses and helped them out numerous times months after leaving to be on call to answer questions for the person who took my position. Years later, I get one job interview in the week I found out I was getting laid off(I saw the writing on the wall and started the job hunt), and lo and behold, my interviewer knew one of my former bosses personally. He called her and she raved about how fabulous I was, and I got the job - when otherwise I might be among the unemployed in this economy. In my mind, just because someone leaves a company doesn't mean they should be dead to their previous colleagues. That's taking it too personally - and business is business - and people leave for personal and career growth. Unless its an abusive individual you choose to disconnect from for a good reason, I'd also say never to burn bridges. You never know when your past will come back and make or break a current opportunity.

Some of the lessons that was expressed was to invest in yourself today! Others were to give to others more than you give to yourself. For example thank you notes for a good job and such. Do you believe these lessons?
