People like to point and laugh at "stupid people". We're not allowed to do it in the "real world", so we turn to TV to provide a source of stupid people to laugh at.

TOP IDEA: Ty Unglebower Why is yelling a game changer? What is with the knee-jerk reaction most people have to someone who has raised their voice? A good point cannot be made loudly? We can defend ourselves against a verbal attack only through whispers and "inside voices"? It hardly seems fair. I look into the nature of yelling in my latest blog post. http://bit.ly/9H7dCC

He showed me how much more mature it was to handle situations calmly and not with yelling. (Of course, this doesn't apply to sporting events or watching the news!) In the workplace, I don't feel like yelling is ever appropriate. A strong tone of voice? Yes. A slightly raised voice? Okay. Yelling? No. I've snapped at a vendor before for making mistakes and not taking something seriously, but even then I didn't actually yell, just snapped. And somehow even that made him cry which was rather awkward.

Plus, I was in the store and for the price I'd envisioned, it was right there. Portability is huge, and what I'd mentioned about not being able to envision using an mp3 player as a recording instrument. Need for mic and earphones over-complicates for me. The Sony has big obvious buttons for my big obvious fingers, and that's a comfort zone I see no need to leave. I remember buying a car stereo unit, a couple actually between '93 and '00 and complaining that you had to use one button to turn thing on and another to turn off, both the size or a Chiclet--'fraid I'm skewing way old here--Why not just big knob for on /off, big knob for volume. These most common functions are easily served by two big knobs, imo. And I wasn't even thinking of charge time, Zach, but the fact that iPods eventually die and need to be replaced. had my portable cassette recorder for taping interviews etc, for 11 years. Worked great on batteries until last year. Anyway, Kyle summed it up nicely. Thanks for everyone's input. Really appreciate it.

It sure does Eric!

This quote caught my attention from the article that you linked to, "If you are a noncelebrity on a reality show, you are given an opportunity," said entertainment attorney Steven Katleman of Greenberg Traurig. "It's a platform. You have to use it intelligently."

I think life is full of lessons. Instead of dwelling on the show's negative sides, maybe one thinks of how that they evolve from the platform of their own circumstances - like the Situation is doing. Maybe one sees Snooki stumbling around in a drunken stupor and thinks, "is that how I look when I've had one too many? That can't be good."

I definitely dont agree with the work out book and supps, but then again Dan Jansen and Chuck Norris have put out similar things.

I think Martin Short put it best when he said he is 'tired of the celebration of ignorance' - and that is the current trend we see with reality tv and talk shows. Unfortunately I think it breeds more ignorance and self-importance.

Yes, I did write the post - and I apologize if the title offended anyone - Given a small space and the short attention spans of most readers, I try to make my post titles tongue-in-cheek - a little amusing, and interesting enough to inspire you/another reader to keep reading.

The point I wanted to make - and I think many of you got it - is that if you want to write for other Mommy Bloggers about your kids then go for it, call yourself a Mommy Blogger. However, there are a great deal of self-identified Mommy Bloggers who regularly and loudly bemoan their lack of non-Mommy readership AND that they are not taken seriously by other writers/readers outside their niche, as well as that the rest of the world expects that they write solely about their children.

If you want to project a different image than the one your brand currently projects, then it's time to come up with a new brand - in this case, call yourself something other than Mommy Blogger if you want the interest and respect of those not interested in reading about your two-year-old's diet.

Hope that clarifies :-) Love the discussion!

I'm not proud of that, but I want to start going to church as a family and I want it to come from an authentic place (whether it's just me or the whole famiy).

I think this article is spot on with the analysis that the church has become too sweet and saccharine and it sometimes does not apply to life in the world anymore. It's become some sort of sheltered group with its own culture that nobody else understands. And the self-righteousness of most people really gets to me and that's one of the reasons I've stopped going.

Maybe it's my own perception and maybe I should look past my own experiences and maybe I should not expect people to be perfect. But still, I continually pray for a more relevant church experience to happen to me now or in the future. Beyond that, I still have my faith and Jesus.

Thanks for sharing this, Kyle.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't really agree with you.

The Bible is truth, and it speaks to me, but that doesn't mean that I believe that every piece of history that transpired or everything that God spoke to other people is something that I should emulate or that directly applies to my life today.

For instance, I certainly wouldn't advocate public mockery, stoning, or humiliation of a prostitute, but I don't have the intention of marrying one, either. If God came to me in a dream or in my prayer time or otherwise directly told me that's what I was to do, I'd do it.

Actually, sometimes I think that would be preferable since it would get rid of the frustration of dating.

As far as my "preferences" for finding a woman, I really haven't expounded on much of what I'm looking for other than someone I'm attracted to. My "standards" are not impossibly high, nor unrealistic.

I have various female friends of mine, for instance, who I would love to date, but they have exhibited immaturity, self-centeredness, or a lack of conviction toward the way they conduct themselves sexually OR...I've sensed that they're not attracted to me.

Again, not to suggest that I am perfect either. I'm definitely not. But the fact of the matter is that at this point in life I know way too many "girls" (at least in the way they conduct themselves) within the church and virtually no "women".

Although, I'd have to also say that the men I've met at church have had just as much trouble reaching out to me... I don't think I've once been asked out on a date from a young man that I went to church with... oh wait, once... the first time I met him! It scared me as a lil too forward!

Anyway, my point in responding: we all need to get over ourselves. Realize we're all sinners and look for the mate in process (b/c we are too)! Going to church to find a date never worked for me (course I was there to worship/serve first and foremost), yet it has always seemed to work for my 80+ yr old uncle!! Haha! No really, I second Trish's comments to relax, be yourself an you'll find each other...

Brock Anderson M. Night Shyamalan puts out his first good movie since The Sixth Sense....After forcing us to put up with just over a decade of terrible "twist" movies, Shyamalan redeems himself with The Last Airbender.

Kyle Hendrickson: Late April fool's joke? This movie is being universally panned by critics and fans of the cartoon alike.

Not by a long shot, but it also doesn't make my top 5 worst movies ever list like The Happening does.

Kyle Hendrickson My organization uses sendible.com to post news, updates and article links to twitter and facebook simultaneously. The issue is, with facebook there's a lot more attention-drawing customization options, but with twitter there's only text. I think it's supposed to help in streamlining the process, but because each of them still requires quite a bit of individual attention, (shortening URLs for twitter, tweaking thumbnails for f/b) it's not all that helpful. Do you recommend something else?

I like Posterous too, but am probably going to switch to Tumblr because it has a higher satisfaction rate between the two and looks to be better supported.

Have you all seen the Twitter extender site? Someone else used in in responding to me once, but I'm not into it.

I also really like Tweetdeck. They both have their strong points, but for the type of function you are trying to accomplish, I would think Tweetdeck might be the best option.
