Just getting started with a new blog -Tales from the Field: Adventures in Conservation PR.-ever been tossed by a North Atlantic Right Whale, nearly drowned while banding mottled ducks, gotten stranded overnight on an island while banding American Oystercatchers, held one of the smallest bats in your hand in a swamp or stood 2 feet away from 50 foot flames on a controlled burn all in the name of conservation? I am currently working as a conservation and social media consultant to a lovely eco-tourism biz in Costa-Rica on the side - what a side job! I knew this social media research would open doors!!

The hardest thing about my thesis? Convincing people to buy in - My goal is to show an actual connection between social media and conservation, the information needed to push those who comment using these networks to actually take action, whether it be a letter, donating money, signing a petition etc. Some people still believe that social media still has no proven ROI in conservation. Frustrating work and slow research.
