However, I think it's necessary in a blog to reveal yourself (interests, characteristics, personal voice) and not talk solely about the industry.

I'm struggling with this as well. It's hard to balance out all of your ideas when you have unlimited space to write.

You may not build a hyper-targeted niche audience that has advertisers beating down your door, but there's plenty of value in developing a reputation for yourself as someone insightful and knowledgable on a wide range of subjects.
