J. Kim Scholes is the Vice President of Human Resources for Network Communications, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia, the publisher of The Real Estate Book, Apartment Finder, and numerous luxury design magazines nationwide which include Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles and Atlanta Home Improvement, promoted from Director after ten months. A certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Kim possesses an extensive background in human relations for both the public and private sectors, having previously held progressively-responsible positions for the Department of Defense/Army, the U.S. General Services Administration, Sportslife/Crunch Fitness/Bally's International, Fitzgerald+Co/McCann-Erickson, and for the Southeast Regional Headquarters of Cingular Wireless, now AT&T. Although she considers herself a generalist with HR operations and merger/acquisitions expertise, she is a subject matter expert in HR operations management and employee and labor relations with particular emphasis in facilitating automated disciplinary action and alternative dispute resolution.
Kim has successfully consulted with and trained bargaining and non-bargaining unit employees, supervisors, managers and senior executives within the defense and telecommunications branches of the federal government, including implementing change management during a critical period of reorganization due to national reinvention initiatives. She has also implemented merger/integration projects, developed a double-digit, multi-million dollar budget, facilitated change management, maintained HR policy oversight, and provided guidance on national/regional employment issues for her previous employer, and acted as an employee advocate for workforces comprised of diverse occupations. Her quality service and professionalism within these organizations have warranted her receipt of numerous promotions, official letters of appreciation from clients, performance and incentive bonus awards, including one of Cingular’s first Key Contributor Awards, and the federal Achievement Medal for Civilian Service. Kim received a Bachelor of Science degree and an MBA with concentrations in management and marketing from the University of Tennessee, graduating from both curricula with high honors.
A true volunteer, her leadership skills extend to her commitment to community service. Highlights of those endeavors are apparent in her elections to current Women’s Council, and past Secretary, Vice President, President-Elect and President of the Board of Directors for the Chancellor’s Award-winning Atlanta Alumni Chapter of the University of Tennessee National Alumni Association; the current Dean’s Board of Visitors (Chairman) of the University of Tennessee College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences; the Nearly New Leadership Committee, Public Affairs Committee Co-Chairperson, Board of Directors Advisory Planning Chair, VP-Internal Operations (twice), and current Corresponding Secretary of the Junior League of Atlanta, Inc.; an appointment on the current Ethics Commission of the Atlanta Board of Education; Vice President, Care Affair (Gold Sponsor of CURE, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta) Corporate Sponsor Chairperson and Treasurer, and President of the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Fraternity; Second Vice Regent/Schools Chairperson/Historian, Chaplain, and Current VIS Chair of Cherokee Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (her stewardship over her chapter's Most Outstanding American History Teacher nomination won the State's highest honor); Current Corresponding Secretary and Past Registrar of the Colonial Dames XVII Century Society; Symphony Ball Host Committee, Decorators’ Showhouse Opening Night Party Host Committee Member, Staffing Manager, Design Co-Chair, Raffle Ticket Sales Co-Chair, and past Membership Orientation Chair of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Associates; Members Guild of the Atlanta History Center, and the current Host Committee member of the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities Golf Classic Dinner Auction, the Hope and Will Ball, and the Pink Ribbons Luncheon.
Kim recently graduated from the prestigious Leadership Atlanta Class of 2009. Kim belongs to the national Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for which she currently holds membership on the Virtual Strategic Network for HR Executives, and held a position on the Human Resources Certification Institute's (HRCI) Eastern Panel Exam Writers. The Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. recently awarded Kim the 2007 90th Anniversary President’s Award for exemplifying the true spirit of dedication, commitment, and service to both the organization and to the President. She has also been recognized as a UT College of Human Ecology Centennial Leader, a United Way VIP member, and a Delta Delta Delta Atlanta Alumnae Chapter Woman of the Year. In 1996, she was honored to be the Placard Bearer for the country of Andorra during the Centennial Olympic Games’ Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
