I graduated in May 2009 with a bachelor's in Consumer Science- Personal Finance. I moved to Austin, Texas in June and started a two month internship with a credit union in their marketing department. It has since turned into a full-time career. I am the Community Education Specialist and couldn't be happier. I get to do everything I love to do and then some. I am working primarily with managing the social media efforts for the credit union, youth and young adult financial education initiatives, and helping out with general member financial education.
I have worked in the credit union industry for almost 6 years now and have worked from various "angles". I have been a teller, I have worked as an intern for the national trade association for credit unions, I have worked at the credit union think tank, and now I am back to a physical credit union, but working behind the scenes.
Financial education is a passion of mine, but it is starting to evolve beyond the basic financial education topics. To me, it is more about finding what the member wants to learn about, and making that happen. Financial education is one of those topics that nobody really wants to go out of their way to learn about, but once they do, they are really glad they did it. My goal, is to get them excited about their money, in whatever way possible.
Not only do I enjoy financial education, but I am really starting to enjoy learning more and more about social media- the hows, whys, and how-tos. Everything about social networking fascinates me. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge in the coming years.
