I graduated Scripps College in 5/2008 with a BA in Mathematics and found myself teaching advanced algebra to 6th graders in Compton, CA. This job can be incredibly satisfying and a whole lot of fun but is no longer moving me in the direction I want to go with my career. I've decided to move back home to Seattle, WA to be near family and work towards a graduate degree in mathematics. If I teach again, it will be at the university level with the more interesting math and expectation of continual education through research and publishing.
Until I move (8/2010) and once I'm in Seattle, I'm interested in doing something that is mentally challenging and uses the mathematician in me that's incredibly detail-oriented and thorough.
Teaching advanced mathematics using the Socratic method of teaching to 6th graders in the Compton Unified School District.
Running volunteer orientations including providing training and information on issues which relate to working with Queer teens; Managing organization's volunteer database and weekly volunteer schedule; organizing continual education for regular staff meetings including diversity training, specific issues teenagers living in the Inland Empire, CA may face, transgender/transsexual education, community resources, etc.
This is a volunteer position.
