Karen Au I'm considering setting up online English courses, done through Skype. Anyone have any tips about how to set up payment online? I was thinking about PayPal. Any other options that work for you?

Its good for starting out though, as you don't have to commit to a contract with them, and its easy to make your payments integrate with your own site. Plus your customers don't need a paypal account themselves in order to pay, unlike Google checkout where they need to sign up first.

Hunt said, most systems will levy fees of some sort. We've also used Paypal for a few years now and so far, have found it to be the most widely accepted & recognised. Are they "live" lessons or downloadable?

Karen Au Hi there! Does anyone know of any philanthropic or charitable initiatives in Hong Kong? My friend's looking to move there and would like to join in on some charity work. Any help would be GREAT! =)

May Yes, as a teacher there are a lot of opportunities, for example we do have several international schools in appealing cities, e.g. Berlin, Munich. Can you give some examples of freelance-skills you can offer?

Some basic freelance-skills I can offer are the following: writing (technical, editorial, creative), tutoring (English as a Second Language, mathematics, etc.), childcare, and photography.

Those are the 3 that I can confidently point to as means for revenue, although I'm sure there's more. My modesty may be getting in the way of my listing any others o.O

Karen Au Most definitely! I'm a teacher, so my career can really be brought anywhere; however, I don't want to become a full-time teacher in another country just yet. So I'm currently making a list of free-lance-able skills that I have, but there has to be another way to figure this out.

Claire Veuthey I'm actually not totally sold on TO yet- I've found it hard to make friends, and last time I checked I don't repel other people. Advice?

123 weeks ago from Toronto

Claire Veuthey: I find it hard to connect to people- &the friends I have made I don't manage to see more than once a month at most. Is this normal here?

When I moved here 6 years ago that is how I established a friend base here. The one I've stayed involved in is JCI (http://www.jcitoronto.ca/)--hold informal socials to get to know other young people once per month.

Ryan Paugh I'm happy that it's raining. Feels like it hasn't rained in Madison in forever. Gives me more focus to stay indoors and get some work done!

Karen Au: As opposed to, say, encouraging you to go outside and dance in the rain? ;)

Karen Au My personal recommendation: Ted Chiang's "Story of Your Life and Others". It's a collection of scifi short stories. Brilliantly thought out.

Natalie Dear Toronto, I miss you. Although I can logically justify my move to the 'burbs, I'm sick & tired of gardening. Keep in touch, Natalie

Karen Au: I hear you. I grew up and still live in the 'burbs, but the city just has this energy about it that will never be replaced. w00t T.O!

Karen Au I love those who work in the non-profit sector. I've been there myself - it's hard. There has to be an easier way to fund projects though.

Robyn Schwartz: Social enterprise and other uniquely generated revenue streams also make life easier; a little creativity goes a long way!

Vanessa Alvarado: I'm eternally grateful that I'm not the one who has to seek funding for our non-profit group.

Karen Au A highly inefficient city with many hidden gems =) Gotta love Toronto.
