Karan Chandidas Hi everyone! I just posted a very very very rough sketch of this 'search engine' sort of idea under the "FORUM" tab. Just a first-year undergrad thinking out loud. Please take a look and let me know what you think. A special thanks to Amanda Fox and Matt Finklestein for their support in this endeavour. (if the post seems a bit hard to follow, that's just because it is a part of my message to Matt, which I was too lazy to retype.....lol.....sorry)

Amanda Fox: Channel marketing sounds like the same sort of thing that family practitioners do for specialists in the form of referrals. Is that right?

Jeremiah Bourque I'm just back from the chat and it was great. Amanda did a wonderful job, we traded great ideas and I have every hope of having helped make The Brazen Careerist even better, because I'm so in love with the idea. Incidentally, I'm on twitter: http://twitter.com/jbtutor and my blog is http://modernstrategist.wordpress.com/ I was searching for blogs with the name when I found this group, but it's just the best name I could find (took 3 tries) and fits me nicely. Great to be here too.

I'm going to post up the outline from the meeting and it might even be featured on the BC homepage this week. :)

Brian Jensen What strategy do you think newspapers should take to stay afloat? As a strategic exercise, I took on the matter and wrote up my thoughts (http://bit.ly/71MtGN). I'd love to hear everyone's insight and what they come up with.

It's like... the total opposite of what will save newspapers. It's full of e-zines rather than e-books: gloss, images, fancy layouts and graphics, hype and razzle dazzle.

I think you're on to something. A text format on something like a Kindle would be like RSS on a portable reader. I'd want to sell future e-books like that. Market my blog. Publish. Convenience is something people will pay for.

Karan Chandidas Has anyone ever heard of "Guanxi"? Apparently, it's an age-old Chinese strategy of doing business with those you know and trust. That's what I've heard! Anyone care to add anything to that?

I believe it was MCD that had a difficult time entering China as they did not develop it prior to launching. Having Gaunxi was so important to the people that as a culture they had no interest in a business without it. This speaks volumes to the amount of effort and foresight that needs to go into relationship and trust building as early in the process as possible. Define yourself with these principles and Gaunxi will follow. :) Great topic to bring up!

Hopefully acting now shouldn't be too much of a deadly endeavour(pardon me, I'm a bit shy of a person). Also, I checked out your TMS Online Mixer under the Events tab. I would love to attend; unfortunately, I would be writing an IT Management exam at that time :( Nevertheless, if you happen to be having another mixer, give me a shout. Thanks again for the welcome.

Karan Chandidas Hello everyone! I've been here only 5 minutes, and am loving it already. Let me just start off by saying that I'm currently an undergraduate business student in Toronto, Canada. The second I walked into the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University, my head began creating a ton of "business ideas". Now, I don't know if this is a part of the university "high" or is it genuine creative thinking.

Adam Perkins I was curious if anyone had some in-depth knowledge from a technical knowhow perspective on utilizing some of the built in features of a cell phones location tracking system? Sites like Loopt.com for example. Or if you knew a site that has some specific information on it? Thanks :)

I am an undergraduate business student in Toronto, Canada. As per your profile, I believe that you have considerable experience in the e-business industry. If you wouldn't mind, may I ask you to add me as a fan so I could send you a message with some general questions about that field (since Brazen Careerist would not permit me to do so without that)? Looking forward to your response, and thanks in advance.

Hey Adam, let's grab a beer sometime. I implemented a few small mobile apps and could give you some insight into it.

Generally there's just an API for each phone (IPhone/Blackberry) or service provider(Sprint/Verizon - for phones that don't have built in GPS) that your code can call into to get GPS data. You might have to determine the city/street yourself, but the distance calculation isn't hard. You'll just need to work with a programmer to do it.
