Sadya Siddiqui Friends with Money: Two friends decide to start ...well....a start-up. One says I'll put in the money , the other says I'll put in all the daily hours. They both believe this situation will work since both of them are allotting the resources that each of them has - money and time. But will this work? I'm skeptical about this arrangement - i think the friend-with-money will demand results from the other guy & the other guy will always feel shortchanged....

Or the one who is putting in the time and effort but whose efforts may not be as visible? History shows that unless you are directly contributing money you will not have as much say...which will lead inevitably to conflict, power struggles, etc. that can hurt the business. Need more balance here.

Elizabeth Marling Does anyone have advice on how to clear your mind and look at items you already own as 'clear slates' to re-purpose? I have tended to hit the thrift stores in the past, but I see how many items I already own and I want to revamp those instead. I am having a hard time looking at items I have owned for years as changeable. It looks like some people here have done this--what worked for you? Any tips?

Be sure to break it down to what you literally need. I don't need a towel bar, I need something to hold a towel in some manner. This helps you creatively solve your needs using non traditional items. The towel bar in my bathroom is a half bicycle crank welded to a chain ring and screwed to the wall

I take photos of things in staged vignettes, and ideas usually come flooding while I'm styling the shoot as well as when I'm editing the photo. I turn things on their side or upside down, imagining what other purpose they could serve. I used to hesitate when I wanted to remake a garment into something else. That first cut was always the scariest, because it seemed like a violent destruction of something perfectly serviceable still. But now I see myself as a re-creator, and without destruction there can be no reconstruction.

It seems that doctors have been warning about this for centuries.

Voltaire, who drank copious amounts of coffee throughout his life, was once warned that the beverage was a slow poison. "It must be slow," the philosopher replied, "for I have been drinking it for sixty-five years and I am not yet dead."

Stanley Lee May as well post my question here as well, since there are a fair number of issues about teamwork that have been bothering me for a very long time. How do you typically deal with ego-centric people in teamwork settings? Would it be different between being in a leadership and non-leadership role? Also, how would effective communication help cope with it? I would be happy to clarify my questions more if it's helpful.

Jason Simon More and more unemployed and underemployed people spend their time at coffee shops, browsing the web, networking, searching for a job. Some argue that WiFi (free or for a nominal fee) is negatively affecting coffee culture. What's your take? Do you think coffee shops should welcome career counselors into their place to engage job hunting customers? Here's a little post I wrote about the subject. http://ow.ly/12IVd

Sometimes I wish that I owned an espresso machine at home just so that I could make cappuccinos. I'm in love with the silky foam (I love sugar, so I like to sprinkle sugar in the raw on top of my foam). Do you own your own machine? If so, did you invest in a good one? Have you tried one of those cheap machines and if so, do they suck?

David Fogel I'm curious, when you guys go to Starbucks, do you order your coffee in sizes by their proper names (tall, grande, vendi) or do you just say "small" "medium" or "large". I ask because I tend to take the lazy way out and call sizes by their american names (A cardinal sin at Starbucks). The clerks always give me dirty looks. It's like I'm an outsider because I'm not down with the lingo. I don't like saying the proper names because it just doesnt make any logical sense. How can tall be small?

121 weeks ago from Coffee

Kim N. Campbell: @Alison, if you want to shorten your drink name in Starbucks speak, it's a skinny vanilla latte. :)

Ed Barrientos: I'm with you David. It makes no sense to me. I order a medium coffee...they can translate it to their jargon...

Yes, people respond as we are ethical and serve the purpose. Offering health supplements that have shown real results and reduce medical bills but still sometime I have a feeling that we have to market the product and press the client with the USP to me personally I feel belittled if the client thinks we are selling for profits. Even though they cut on the medical bills by as much as 60% in first year. I want to know what should a simple theme be?

You can save people 60% on their medical bills with these supplements? that's the hook. You can't use same marketing materials here as in Europe. They use and appreciate alternatives/supplements much more than US in general. You say you've done research--but have you done US market research on what people think your product is and what it can do for them (or the category your product is in)?

Kanav Hi Penelope, I have started a fresh career in Organic Alternative Healthcare Supplements via Ayurveda. I searched for some distributors in the US but past 1 year there have been no positive response. I sent direct mails but still no response. Otherwise the products are well received in US by one of buyers. What am I doing wrong? I am thoroughly confused. The products are 100% organic certified by USDA and CU cert. All paperwork is 100% done. Where should I search? Thanks! Kanav
