About Me

"Kaite Welsh is a switched-on contributing journalist with a firm grasp of demographic and house style. She's proactive in pitching and sourcing content, and when it comes to providing sticky, thought-provoking and entertaining content she also delivers. We at Mookychick are also impressed with the quality of her little black book of contacts. Kaite's a gem - a real treasure for any publisher or editor."

- Magda Knight, editor, Mookychick

Kaite grew up in Merseyside, and got her accent from Merchant Ivory films. Convent-educated, she has changed religions more often than she has changed her hair colour, and finally settled on atheism after discovering that Richard Dawkins was married to Lalla Ward from Doctor Who. Her hair is now its natural colour.

She studied English Literature at Edinburgh University, writing her undergraduate dissertation on female sexuality in science fiction, before moving to Sussex University to do an MA in Sexual Dissidence and Cultural Change. It makes an excellent ice-breaker in job interviews. She toyed with joining the civil service but moved into the voluntary sector because it meant that she could wear jeans to work.

Now she works as a freelance journalist, researcher and copywriter who dabbles in fiction and sometimes gets paid for it. She lives in London with her partner, two cats, several hundred books and an entire drawer full of tea.
