K Elaine Hooper So, after an extended absence, I have returned to the internet and updated my website and my blog. I'm very excited to announce that I have started a new project, as yet untitled. I was inspired by the guy who traded a red paperclip for a house. I am trading a card trick for a car. And even if I don't succeed, I'll come out with a very interesting story! Check out my latest post to find out how the first trade went: http://kelainehooper.weebly.com/blog!

Small world: my sister Rianna (also on Brazen Careerist) is a senior Anthropology major at UNC too! I'm interested to see where you anthro majors end up in the world. Good luck! And think about coming to the Pecha Kucha event on Tuesday night -- lots of great ideas and networking opportunities.

K Elaine Hooper Hello again everyone, I have redone my resume and website according to the wonderful feedback I have gotten here. Again, please remember that this is my template that gets heavily tailored for each position I apply to--especially my summary, which now says less about what I believe. More feedback, advice, and constructive criticism would be very helpful. Spec. question about my site-Should the resume page be the landing page, or should I keep it the way it is? Just wondering. Thank you!

I'm looking at the PDF from your website, and there are a couple of formatting issues: your name and contact information should be centered, and your name should be the visually strongest piece of info on the page, so don't grey it out. All of your dates should be justified to the right, which is easy using tab and spaces. The date for your degree should read "anticipated May 2010" and also be justified to the right margin, and also the dates for study abroad and honors. Those two shouldn't be bolded since they fall under your degree. I would remove the word "currently" from your first bullet point under web writer. Since the dates are 2009-present you don't need it and it sounds temporary. As you're making this in Word, you should choose fonts that strengthen your hierarchy of your topics. Check out this link: http://www.behance.net/Gallery/Periodic-Table-of-Typefaces/193759 for some common fonts. Good work!

I just graduated too. Congratulations! It's good to get positive feedback from others early in the game.

I would suggest bringing your name, email and URL together in the center so it looks like a letterhead. Your summary statement at the top should be concise (there are a lot of commas so it appears to be a run-on sentence). The durations of employment are years; you may want to include mont/year-month/year and have the text flush right.

You have experience in writing/publishing, so formatting and alignment are important for the reader to skim between sections. List some examples of your favorite topics to write about so they can get a sense of how you apply your skills. Looks good. Keep up the good work.

K Elaine Hooper Hello! Graduating from University of North Carolina with Bachelor's in Anthropology, and seriously job hunting! Trouble is, I feel so un-prepared to go into any particular field. I feel like my degree is extremely general, and so is all my previous work experience. Any advice?

K Elaine Hooper Reworked my resume after getting a ton of great feedback from lots of different sources. Download on my profile or http://hirekelaine.weebly.com (use the download links at the bottom of that page instead of the text of the page itself). Any more advice would be excellent!

Your personal stories (Not Typical details and Blog) are interesting, so I think your website can stand as the place for people to know about you in general (and for you to express yourself), while the resume can be more focused as others suggested.
Also although Education might be core to you but for most employers not so, so.. Skills and Experience can come up front?

I read a blog post recently with tips for online writing.
online readers are mostly scanners, so it's important to add "eye stoppers" to help people rest their eyes as they scan. You've got your text nicely arranged, not too much at a time, but I would recommend adding some design or some paragraph format that adds those places for the eye to rest as it scans.
