I'm trained as an academic who left the ivory tower to work in the public sector. I still teach adjunct to stay in touch with students and research and now do public communication and braodcast for a municipal government. It means I have an understanding of local politics, can read and decipher legislative writings and procedures and work closely with the media and our elected politicians' constituencies. I do event coordinating, writing, public presentations and often many unique little projects as part of my day to day work.
I'm also a tour guide (for example) for City Hall and as a result, became a Certified Tourism Ambassador for the City of Milwaukee. Milwaukee is a new city to me; I specifically moved here for the job and have learned every nugget about the place that I can and am now one of its biggest advocates.
I've been awarded and recognized locally and nationally for my creative projects and my teaching and leadership.
I'm a video gamer geek, a travel junkie, a readaholic and a social activist. Recently, I have dedicated a large amount of time to the AAUW-Milwaukee Branch and have networked through that group to help with a number of other community organizations.
