About Me

MY 1st EXTREME CAREER MAKEOVER

40 lbs overweight, out-of-shape and with high blood-pressure, I was making $230+K/year as a regional manager of a staffing company. I had a new house I was never in, a new husband I never saw, and was completely out of touch with friends and family. I still remember the day I found the note from my assistant saying my mom called and that it was urgent...it was dated a week old.

Yet, it wasn't until the birth of my first daughter that I had the Ah-ha Moment I needed to radically re-write my story. I was on maternity leave, ready to go back to my high-powered, low-satisfaction life when I realized something: I was now her main teacher in life. She would observe me and assume that what I was doing was the right way to live. How could I let that happen? I didn't like myself? I would be teaching her to end up like me.

With the blessing of my husband, I walked away from it all and decided to start over. This time, I would define career success on MY TERMS - and create a satisfying life in the process.

I'm a career strategist and workplace consultant who helps American workers of all ages find greater professional satisfaction.

I consider myself a “field expert.” I work with both individual clients and corporations, which gives me access to emerging workforce trends.

My works been cited in Wall Street Journal, USA Today, New York Times, Fox Business, NPR, CNN, MSNBC, AOL, CareerBuilder, MOnster, BusinessWeek, Mashable, Yahoo, and dozens of other national publications.

In 2008, I founded the career advice site, CAREEREALISM.com which is now a top 10 world-ranked career advice blog, featuring the best career experts in America.

In 2009, I launched the first ‘Career HMO’ - CAREEREALISM Club, a virtual career center staffed by experts that helps professionals advance their careers.

My book, CAREEREALISM: The Smart Approach to a Satisfying Career, outlines my proven career-coaching methodology. I also work with Dale Dauten to write the career advice column “JT & Dale Talk Jobs,” a nationally syndicated column that appears in more than 130 newspapers, reaching 6+ million households weekly.
