JP McDermott I work with really talented, experienced people who are in transition. One of the things I recommend is for them to join or start a 'success team' of other positive, giving people in the same boat. Other than being a great support team, they hold each other accountable, share & critique each others resumes, hold mock interviews and celebrate when a member lands a job. What are some great ideas you've heard that keep a job search in full gear during the holidays?

Christina - Blogging and tweeting as you mentioned are great ways to have content to back up everything you do.

Bruny- That is great advice and something that I will be doing as well!

I do everything so independently and my first inclination is almost always to figure out how to do things myself. As I gear up to transition into the work world, I'm working on shifting to a more group oriented approach to achieving my goals.

JP McDermott Comment on blog posts, use press releases to publicize events you're attending or hosting, write your own blog and tweet your posts, refer to them in FB and LinkedIn and over time, you will rise in the page ranks. (That's my challenge right now - I share the name of a successful western bop recording artist on the east coast who is a master at his online presence and brand!) I'd like other's ideas on how to improve web presence. Thanks!

Interesting advice from Mike, never heard that before.

My advice is to continue what you're doing! SEO takes 3-6 months to kick in as Google doesn't gives you answers, it gives you controlled results!

If this doesn't work then I would recommend using another variation of your name, one that no one else has. It's the harsh reality but it is hard to fight celebrities online as they get a lot of press and link-backs.

McDermott" or some other variant, if used consistently, will help you rise in the rankings.

The goal is not to have everything you have ever done under one name--just get 3-10 great websites show up using your "unique" name and have some of those (LI, BC, FB) refer to your older works under your other, less unique, name.

Talk about your job, interest, views, whatever, as long as your talking someone will listen. Attend events, volunteer, hang out at your fav spots in town. As for social networking, this is a great place to just drop a line and reply to others comments. You got to put yourself out there for someone to notice you. We are all trying to do the same thing. Hope this helps.

Trace Cohen: Love the responses! Social media is only a medium to make the connection but you have to solidify your relationship being meeting face to face.
