I tried my hand at writing movie scripts in Hollywood in the 70's but wasn't a good enough promoter of myself. Ironically, after working as an ad agency scriptwriter in LA and New Zealand, I ended up founding a training software startup making conversation rehearsal courses (www.talksmith.net). Sound like you have no problems with Hollywood promotions or foodservice stuff either (I also wrote copy for Freschetta's pizza at one point in my long career. Anyway, best of luck. You'll do fine!

Joy Kennelly In light of overnight sensation, Antoine Dodson's popularity, what is your take on his next steps? In case you haven't heard of him, here's the wrap-up NPR article: http://n.pr/aVpvI5 I think he's brilliant and should have his own show, but that's just because I live in LA. What's the rest of you think?:)

Ryan Healy "10 Ways Generation Y Will Change The Workplace" - http://bit.ly/AlrXh. I wrote this post in May of 2008 after a year and a half of researching, blogging, and speaking about Generation Y. I made 10 simple predictions that I thought would make the workplace better for everyone. Since then, I've received over 140 comments on the post and even had a few people write in to tell me that some of my predictions are coming true.

I love it; have a couple comments on each line. Interested in your thoughts.

1. We'll Hold Only Productive Meetings
- Agreed; we know 'time is money'. Only 'tiny' difference I've seen in the workplace is our meetings tend to have 3-5 minutes of "social" time at the beginning or end. A bit more than a typical conservative older company - but I believe this is because we value peers and relationships more.

2. We'll Shorten the Work Day
- Agreed that we are more efficient and will / can do more in less time, however my "work day" as well as most of the execs I know that are my age is 'longer' in that we are so used to being 'connected', we are all always looking at our iphones and BBs, etc. whereas the older generations don't necessarily have the habits we do.

3. We'll Bring Back the Administrative Assistants
- Interesting. I sure hope so! Is this happening? I've always had the privilege of using my CEOs or having one of my ops managers cover other things, but I'm all onboard to bring this on!

4. We'll Redefine Retirement
- Wow. You just defined my life before it happened. I've been working 90 hour weeks (by choice) for 7 years and am now consulting (and makign more money than I ever did before) in what I would define as a vacation - I can only work 20 hours / week...and am leaving with my husband to travel at the end of the month.

5. We'll Find Real Mentors
I couldn't agree with you more. I just started a blog otu of boredom ( ; and this was my first real post; mentors - http://bit.ly/908G86

6. We'll Restore Respect to the HR Department
Great call

7. We'll Promote Based on Emotional Intelligence
Love it

8. We'll Continue to Value What Our Parents Have to Offer
Dead on. I've taken my parents to every office I've had and even brought my father into one of my C level meetings so he could learn how marketing at the Washington Post works.

9. We'll Enjoy Higher Starting Salaries
Thus far, I have...fingers crossed that I continue..

10. We'll Re-invent the Performance Review
Always worked on weekly and monthly goals...tied my salary into monthly OI and reviews.

Cary Thomson I'm having a whopper of a day - no less than three people have dropped problems into my lap that they should have dealt with months ago and the start of term is just around the corner so I'll have even less time than usual to sort these issues out. It's not a nice situation but I'm feel I'm in danger of becoming self pitying and whiny which is not a good way to spend the weekend. So what's your favorite way to pull yourself out of a pity party?

I do understand that some people keep their FB page/profile as private as possible. And you right it might seem "spammy" if you flood your friends with likes that you dont actually like and fans update that you are not actually a fan of.

But I also understand that some of us here use our own personal pages for both personal and professional interaction.

After all, the tribes that we build can actually start from the people that we actually know. Take for example, when your close friend or friend within your network knows that you have your own ad agency, isnt it but natural for them to refer people to you? A source of recommendations? That could be very beneficial for your business. You should start out with your own circle if you want to succeed.

@Lindsay, Kristina Thanks :) Added and Liked.

Mae Buzen How much time do you spend complaining about politics? If you're a news junkie like me, and passionate about politics, you probably spend several hours a week complaining about the state of politics and public discourse in this country. Just because they link to you or credit you doesn't mean anything.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people quoting and offering their own opinions and analysis, but there is never any reason to repost content in its entirety. The bottom line for me is that if my content is making someone money (directly or indirectly) that person should be me.

@Sandrine As for what people do about it, contact them and tell them to remove it if that doesn't work, step it up and get an attorney.

I remember getting emails from reader who saw my content reproduced, and I'd email asking the blogger to remove the content or attribute the work to me. It was exhausting.

It became less important with time, too time consuming to bother with. I am bothered by splogs more so than real creative bloggers using my work.

I have considered going the un copyrighted way of Zen habits. The blogesphere is just too large and there is no time.
http://zenhabits.net/open-source-blogging-feel-free-to-steal-my-content/

Understand, my blog is personal. It doesn't contain my academic work or professional analysis. I don't make my living by writing and never intend to, so this is where I am coming from.
