It's tough being in Wisconsin when most of my family lives on the East Coast. I'm working towards a work life that allows me to spend less time in the office and more time working remotely.

I have moved closer to the people most important to me but it hasn't been the best for my career. I would like to find a position that would allow me to work remotely/independent from my area with some travel to clients, offices, etc. That is the work-life balance I am looking/working towards. What are you doing to make this happen? Are you targeting certain companies? I would like to get some ideas/feedback.

There are a couple of things we can learn here:
- there are no stock picking experts, even monkeys can perform better (http://bit.ly/1ffru8)
- the best investments are mutual funds, specifically index funds
- no one can predict the market, so it's not worth trying to beat it.
