Josh Swindle Why do corporations spend so much time on conference calls? They have conference calls about the conference calls to discuss the conference call next week. The power is in your people and customers. Get off the phone.

These days teams seem to form and disperse regularly, and too many people are responsible for too many things. Since no one is really sure who is responsible for what, the easiest way to keep everyone involved is just to have a big conference call.

Of course most people on the conference call won't be needed, but its easier to invite everyone to meetings than to set up a well-defined organizational structure.

Meg Walsh: it depends. you can knock out something fast in an hour if you have the right people on the call.

Josh Swindle Can anyone become a good writer with enough practice? Ayn Rand states, "that anyone who can speak English grammatically can learn to write non fiction."She says that writing is like any other skill you have and with enough practice you can be great. What do you think?

TOP IDEA: Josh Swindle Do you ever take time to observe? We all have instant communication at the touch of a button and I rarely just observe. So today when I went for coffee I left the cell phone and laptop in the car. I took only a notebook and ink pin. Its amazing the ideas that come to mind when all the chatter is gone. Plus the fact that I observed an elderly lady stealing the sugar holder. What else have I missed?

Josh Swindle: so obviously I need to observe more because I misspelled ink pen

TOP IDEA: Josh Swindle How many opportunities do we miss because we didn’t put the extra effort into it? Recently, I spoke to a lady at the library about writing. She told me she had wrote six books, but none of them had been published yet. What struck me as odd was what she said next. “I’m really hoping that this next book will be published because I tried extra hard on it.” I’m wondering why she didn’t put the extra effort in the first six.

Ryan Paugh Hey everybody, I'm heading to Saint Louis for the weekend to hang out with my girlfriend's sister and husband. Any local tips for places I should go and things I need to see? Hook me up before I leave tomorrow! Thanks in advance.

@Josh -- I didn't get to go to Drunken Fish, but I hung out in that neighborhood a lot. Very nice! Ate dinner at Liluma and had drinks at Sub Zero.

@Jenn -- I saw the World Naked Bike Ride on the news Saturday night. I skipped making an in-person appearance :)

TOP IDEA: Josh Swindle Thank you notes! Stop using your companies pre printed thank you notes. You know the ones i'm talking about, everything is done for you and all you have to do is sign your name. Hand write a thank you note! Hand writing is much more personal and it shows you care.

We plan on working with them in the near future, just focused on getting some other things in place first. I really like the idea, since I used to do stamping and embossing of cards, was a lot of fun at the time, but don't have time any more, and like the idea of still being able to do the personal touch without lugging out all my craft supplies and stamping for 5 hours non stop- LOL For now I still have some personal cards left and am using them- and everyone comments on how much they like them.

Marian Schembari What do you guys thinking about only choosing one career? Do you really think it's necessary to pick a field and stick with it? Ex: I'm in publishing but also plan on attending pastry school. I'm not choosing pastry over publishing, I love them both. Gen X and above find this trait flaky. I see it as having a lot of passions. I wrote a post about this (http://bit.ly/7a70Vu) with mixed feedback. What do you think?

I've worked in everything from construction to food service to tech product management but it all makes sense in my head, how these experiences relate to and build on each other.
