Rebecca Thorman Are you an asker or a guesser? Askers will ask for anything—a favor, a pay rise—fully realizing the answer may be no. Guessers avoid asking unless they're sure the answer will be yes & put out feelers instead. Neither's "wrong", but when an Asker meets a Guesser, unpleasantness results. Your boss, asking for a project to be finished early, may be overdemanding—or just an Asker, who's assuming you might decline. If you're a Guesser, you'll hear it as an expectation. Which are you?

John Baker [SIGH] Day 8 receiving (~12) Brazen notes a day; None related to me or to a comment I've written. Also, days after 2nd note to Brazen dealing with this issue. No Answer. NOT FEELING THE LOVE. Also, NOT Gen-Y. Others sharing these thoughts - come to pip.io and let's get something started. Just search for 'John Baker' and drop me a note.

Jake Why do I feel like not blogging because I think my words wouldn't be worth the time to write, let alone read. Who cares who reads it, I should be writing like no one is reading! I need to start writing for myself again. Ohhh, now I realize why this shadow is upon me, I lost a follower a week ago.

TOP IDEA: John Baker OKAY! Six weeks have passed since I posted about some of the limitations in the posting/re-posting mechanisms used on BZ. I did get a 'we're working on it' reply a week or so after posting, but today I got a note and when I responded I got a not authorized/invalid/inscrutable..... anyway, *one* of these, in a standard system-error response. If things don't get more specific in traffic delivery, and access doesn't start working as intended, I can't stay. Sorry. What is status today?

John Baker Hi all - I received a nice note this AM from sadya siddiqui, commenting on someone's EXCELLENT E-MAIL ETIQUETTE. (All caps for emphasis only) I wanted to acknowledge it's nice "catching someone else doing it right" because role models, but when I replied got an "Access Denied" message. . If you know Sadya, please say "thanks" for me?

Stanley Lee Maybe an awkward question. As my age grows, I encounter more situations in my personal or professional life of people rather believing in lies than the reality/truth. I keep thinking such belief is an escape mechanism from the harsh reality. I'm wondering about your thoughts on this. It would be a great blog post topic for me personally. Thanks in advance!

Urban legends are a big one for me: so many former co-workers, relatives, and older friends send me emails that are blatantly false (Obama is secretly a Muslim born in Kenya; Sarah Palin's son Trig is really her daughter's son; a stranger will pick you up at a bar, and you'll wake up the next morning in a bathtub full of ice with your kidneys missing; etc.) and really push back when I reply that the email in question has been debunked on Snopes, by the mainstream media, or basically by reality.

Because of my psych degree, I tend to think that it's part of the human tendency to become more conservative overall and more religious/mystical as one ages -- it's often pointed to as a reason that tribal elders were responsible for story telling and record-keeping in early civilization. My belief is that as one ages, reality becomes more fraught with depressing ideas (you're getting older, you can't do what you once could, you're getting closer to death, etc.) and so people begin clinging to conspiracy theories, religion/mythology, and outright fanciful lies in order to avoid truths which would suggest that there isn't a higher power (be it God, the infallible Government, or lizards that control the Government and will imprison us all in concentration camps under the Denver International Airport when their reign of terror begins) controlling life and that life is what we make of it because as we age, we lose our ability to control that life.

Personally ...MoreHi Stanley, While I do agree with Elizabeth that it seems older folks appear more conservative, I cannot agree with her reasoning. Personally speaking, now that I am older, I simply have much more to lose now than when I was younger. I have responsibilities - kids - that I did not have when I was young. And older now, experience has taught me there is much more gray area in the Black & White world I assumed when I was younger.

When you are young you are much more able to draw lines in the sand and state this is right and that is wrong or this is truth and that is false. As you experience more you realize truth is a construct not a naturally occurring absolute. What may be an absolute truth to you now might be questionable when you are older and have had to deal with difficult decisions.

JenG The person doing my blog design is pleading with me to remove the Feedburner count until I'm over 1000 subscribers. I guess the thing is, I'm proud of every single person who takes their free time to read my blog, whether that number is 20 or 2000. What's wrong with leaving it there? I am not ashamed! (For the record, I have about 22 email subscribers who aren't coutned in the Feedburner total yet, so my nubmer, once I get it all worked out, is around 50)

TOP IDEA: John Baker While I really enjoy the BRAZEN msg activity, there are times when I review my in-box and am picky about what I read out of time considerations. It would be VERY NICE if BC could clean up the mail titles when sending notes out, to more specific (and correct) labels. If there's a new blog, just say so; please don't tell me someone's sent "me" a message unless that person actually sent me specifically a message; if there's a reply to a reply I've written, just say that. THANKS.

Cameron Plommer I want to write up a blog post about essential economic knowledge that every American and person should have a grasp of. Most people know economics runs through every area of one's life, but they don't know really how though. I'd like to help fill that void. So, what do you think is the most important knowledge citizens should have about economics and the economy in general? Knowledge that would make somebody not only a well-rounded citizens but just smarter in the economic sense

After all American dependence on one salary is a fairly recent phenonena(approx. 80 to 100 years). I also think knowlege in assessing economic opportunity or monetization opportunities and comfort in analyzing gross margins, net margins and the impact of volume sales on the viability of potential products and services.

Think YMCA/YWCA. Except I already have contacts there, so I'm good. IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE at YM- or YWJA; who works for a Boys or Girls Clubs of America where exercise & swimming programs are offered..... you get the picture.... I would much appreciate an introduction! Thank you in advance!

Cameron Plommer I have a problem letting go of my thoughts after the work day is over and I should be devoting time to my personal life, mainly my girlfriend. I have such an urge to write and put my thoughts down on paper. Its just hard for me to let it go until the next day. Part of the reason I do this is because I spent a lot of my life not doing anything, not making or producing, only consuming. Consuming information, entertainment, whatever. What do you do to stop for the day and focus on other things

However, I have found that loading my ipod w/ a large amount of music that I love and going for at least a 30min-1 hour walk or run at the end of the day completely refreshes me. I am a full time working Mom who never really 'shuts off' and taking even 30 min to walk and listen to music completely clears my head. I have been amazed at how clear my head gets during this time and all the ideas that come to me. I know it may seem so simple compared to previous comments but I suffer from constant 'overload' on a daily basis and this is something that has kept me grounded.

Ed, that's great! It's so key. Also if you have ever read "The Four Agreements" by Don Jose Luis Ruiz his last agreement is the best:

4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self- judgment, self-abuse and regret.

I think people need to remember this when the day ends.

Iz Recently cleaned my sites up, of the majority of the ads that were up, not that I believe that ads on a blog are no good as I don't believe that you can paint every blog with the same brush and a lot of the websites I've shopped from were advertised on blogs. I wanted to get back to the reason I started blogging about music and that's for the simple fact that I love it. Twitter, facebook etc. with the exception of myspace music I still have no use for but I think that phone and iPad apps.

Cameron Plommer I'm curious if you guys have multiple blogs that serve different purposes. I started out blogging about everything and soon realized that isn't a smart strategy. And isn't really a strategy at all. I have two blogs: one Wordpress and one Tumblr. My WP blog is mainly for longer posts where I am more analytical and pragmatic, serious. My Tumblr is for my random thoughts that aren't really appropriate for a my WP blog theme and direction.

Whether it be profession-related, or just a specific topic - it should be what you are blogging the most about. Then keep more of a personal/freelance kind of blog is that is meant to cover a wider variety of topics.
It offers a sort of balance between formal blog with a goal and target audience, and a more casual blog that can have a specific audience or appeal to many.

Jim Parker If you list a URL in your resume, which is it and why do you choose to share that link with potential employers? However, I will say that as redundant as it may seem, most people who have included a URL on their resume have pointed to their LinkedIn profile. I also see the LinkedIn URL regularly on business cards these days, far more frequently than I see a Twitter handle, strangely enough. The LinkedIn URL may not be as redundant as you think, though, as long as you've got your blog, recent Twitter updates, and endorsements properly set up. Those are things I would not normally see on a resume.
