My name is Jessica Dickinson Goodman and I go to Carnegie Mellon University. I am a Ethics, History and Public Policy major and am seeking minors in Vocal Performance and Computer Science. I am also in the Humanities Scholars Program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
I am from the Bay Area in California, but am learning to love the East Coast.
I have studied karate for 14 years in dojo (Karate studio) where “you kick like a girl” is a compliment. I am a blackbelt and teach Shito-Ryu Karate Do at CMU in a club I founded with two of my friends, TKD@CMU.
I spent the last semester researching how to use YouTube as a forum for educational resources for students who have difficulty reading, while recording some great literature and posting it to YouTube.
In 2006 my essay, “High School Politics”, published in _She's Such a Geek: Women Write About Science, Technology, and Other Nerdy Stuff_, Edited by Annalee Newitz and Charlie Anders. Which is pretty cool. If you want to hear more about my professional life, check out my resume (I'll send it to you if you comment here!).
For more on my life, read my blog: FeelingElephants.
While at Human Rights USA I re-wrote their web content, increasing the number of client stories by 5-fold and streamlining access to vital information for clients. I developed their social media present, and quadrupled their blog traffic. It was a great experience!
