Tiffany Aviles I have never roasted & probably wouldn't know where to even begin. Any advice on how to get started?

I strongly urge you to purchase one of the roasting machines. They are quite simple and make it a fun experience rather than difficult and frustrating.

Jesse Trucks I have an aging Freshroast Plus unit, and I, too, prefer complex single origin beans. I recently had some wonderful Kona that I enjoyed w/ a friend. It was sweet and very smooth. Yum!

Jesse Trucks We have a hobby farm with a horse (with another one that lives elsewhere until spring), 7 geese, 8 chickens (7 hens and a rooster), 3 barn cats, and 3 poodles. Anyone else have a large collection of furry/feathered friends?

I already have 3 very active dogs that keep me hopping and I'm curious, is it a ton of work to keep up with all those animals? I'd have an entire zoo if it were up to me! But, need time to make a living, too...

Jesse Trucks I work for a research firm that designed and uses a custom built supercomputer for computational biochemistry for the purpose of aiding in core research toward eventual new treatments or cures. I manage the supercomputers and the datacenter housing them. Anyone else on the HPC or tech side of biotech?

Jesse Trucks Lately I've been roasting most of my own beans at home, and I've really been liking some peaberry varieties, especially from Ethiopia (my favorite source for coffee already). Anyone else roasting their own or have a favorite region source lately?

I understand why Starbucks does roast really dark, however. They need to keep their flavor consistent across batches, which is easiest to do with a really dark roast, and they usually sell drinks piled with non-coffee into the same cup, which weakens the coffee flavor some. Therefore, they roast it darker and brew it stronger.

Jesse Trucks I roasted a nice, deep City roast of a Tanzanian Peaberry from a batch I bought in NYC a few weeks ago at a shop in the Greenwich Village. It turned out smooth and silky, with almost no acid. YUMYUM!

We have a nice mix of big companies and baby biotechs. For instance, in the building I'm in, there's big pharma, a daughter company of a 2nd big pharma, a small biotech owned by a 3rd big pharma, and a baby biotech just getting off its feet... and I have former coworkers in all four companies!
