Sal Pellettieri Hi, I am developing a website for students to manage their group projects online. Basically it allows them to create private groups, fill in project details, chat, schedule meetings etc. I'm curious what the students out there think of this idea?

Hi Sal,

I think you are developing in a crowded space. There are a lot of tools (Google Apps, Yahoo Groups, BaseCamp)and others that help folks collaborate online. If you can somehow integrate more more more social web, simple video chat, and still differentiate yourself from the big guys--you have a fighting chance. Gotta stay ahead of the curve, you know? Do you plan on marketing to higher ed institutions or students directly if I might ask?

Best,

I'm moving to Bellingham in May with my M.S. in chemistry and I already have a B.S. in biology. I'm looking to change from the chemistry field into biology. Any ideas about where to get started in Bellingham? I look forward to your reply! Thank you for your time.

Ray Pompon Everyone loving the weather? It'll get better, trust me. Sometime around April.

J. Kumm: Three big storms in four days this week?! This is a little crazy, but also a little exciting. What is your favorite way to spend a rainy weekend?
Ray Pompon: We've got a 2-year old, so rained in weekends are rough. Usually Children's Museum, Ikea, B&N - anywhere she can run around and blow off energy.

J. Kumm Does you eLearning institution get backlash from traditional institutions? Do you think educational leaders in traditional institutions frame eLearning institutions as illegitimate?

I'm taking the online option for classes from UCLA Extension toward a certificate. I really like it. You definitely have to manage your time and studying more, but I also enjoy having more freedom. But I guess UCLA Extension sort of falls in the middle for your question since it still has the name "UCLA" to stand behind. Also, even tho my class can get college credit, it doesn't use the same book as the equivalent regular UCLA class. Hrm...

Our online courses are usually just another section of the traditional lecture course (except for the College of Liberal Studies) but keeping the textbooks updated is always challenging (like vanessa said, they often will be a different text or an older edition).
I don't think that illegitimacy, necessarily, is as much of a concern for university leaders as much as competition. Maybe another question might be... when will the educational bubble burst?
