Edward,

I do not know where you live, but joining GiversAlwaysGain.com is free...and so too is the corresponding Linkedin Group (if there is one in your area). Wouldn't hurt to find out. The REAL POWER in the marketplace today is not technology or number crunching - despite the lame behavior of far too many in the HR industry. So, it is up to caring people to go to bat for caring people. And, one great place to look for caring people is within The Business Connection.

Noel Rozny: Interesting question! I see so many LI profiles that are clearly out of date, and I always assume that people update their resume first and LI later.

I find it especially gratifying to make a point of thanking for the good customer service. Recently I reviewed a restaurant, and pointed out to the owner how great the customer service experience was from a busboy. The owner never shared that info with his employee. I asked the employee a day or so later if the owner had shared my compliments, and his response was "he never says anything nice to us!" That is sad! BAD OWNER! And I will point that out in my next review of the restaurant.

But if you have a connection to a tax-favored state (e.g. FL), then I would try to associate as much as possible there. Change your driver's license, your voting their, your bank accounts to there, etc. The more connections you have to that state the less likely you are to be properly challenged by another greedy state.

I suggest to my clients that when they are taking an extensive trip and/or going to a 'exotic' destination they speak with their Dr. and get a GG shot, or heavy dose of B12, or whatever the Dr. may suggest. I have traveled over a million airmiles and Nyquil caps are always in my carryon. Prevents little bugs, and helps sleep. Breathing recycled air on an airplane is YUK! One might think I work for Vicks, but I do NOT. Just an avid traveler.
I did not realize kids were in the equation. Their Dr. should tell you what to do, and not do for them.

JESS Kalinowsky Have you heard of the 80/20 rule? I have fought it all my life!!! I think it sucks! If 80% of your business comes from 20% of your clients, you are in serious financial jeopardy if one of your top clients leaves you, for whatever reason! Why is that hard to understand? Maybe back when the USA was in tip top financial shape, but not today, when your best client can go belly up in a heartbeat. Give me a bunch of smaller clients anytime!

Charlie Anderson What the general thought on job candidates printing personal business cards? I know some people think it's a great idea and helps a candidate separate herself from both her current employer (if she has one) and the rest of the pack. But others think it's a tacky marketing ploy--perhaps because all that info is on a resume. Or maybe because so many people give themselves cheesy titles like "Digital Leader," "Web 2.0 Guru," or "Executive Professional." What do you guys think? Thumbs-up or down?

It may get frustrating, but you need to step back and evaluate the situation. For example, I have my iphone on me at all times, and it is hooked up to my email. Most likely he will delete you resume. The employer is not a recruiter and has not interviewed. What you doing in this case is nothing more than a crap shoot. What are you going to do now? The best thing is never to lie. Say, you are between jobs, and state the reason why you left your last position, and make it a good reason. Hopefully you were not fired for incompetence. If it was due to budgets, layoffs, downsizing whatever, that's another story that is so common today in this economy. It really doesn't matter if you're employed or not, it's whether you have the background and skills to do the job and the personality to fit in with the corporate culture. That's it. Nothing more.
