About Me

I capture human passions in an authentic and remarkable manner and enable their actionable sharing in order to inform, entertain and inspire people.
What I believe

* Storytelling is a primal, communal, powerful connecting and unifying force
* The internet is the most efficient global tool for sharing stories ever devised
* Interactions based on authenticity, humility, grace and humor are the most valuable, both professionally and personally
* A balanced, well-produced collection of passionate, personal anecdotes is a highly effective method of creating an emotional connection between an end user and any product or experience.

Things I’ve Done

* Been a defendant on behalf of the ACLU in an internet censorship case (1998)
* Been involved in a peer-counseling website featured on the front page of the New York Times (1995)
* Launched the first staff-authored blog of a major label

Work History

  • Waggener Edstrom
  • Experience Producer
  • August 2009 to January 2011
  • I advised on digital and social media strategy and execution for a wide range of clients in order to assist them in communicating more openly and effectively on the internet. I do:

    • Strategic Communications Consulting (I help clients adjust the way their stories are told to maximize their impact and build communities)
    • Social Media Footprint Analysis (I look at what clients are doing to tell their stories and listen to their advocates and interested parties via social networks to make sure the right people connect with them, and then make recommendations as to how they could improve)
    • Trend Watching (I help to keep our practices current on the latest thinking going on around their focus in the digital space)
    • Content Strategizing (I help to identify the most compelling way for our clients to capture the interesting things about them and people who interact with them)

  • Sony Music Entertainment
  • Manager, Digital Editorial and Fan Relations, Commercial Music Group
  • January 2007 to June 2009
  • Helped to direct the focus of Sony BMG toward using the internet to improve marketing techniques through the use of innovative and informative digital content.
    • Established the first public-facing staff-authored blog for any major record label as a channel to share their knowledge, passion and experiences around music directly with the internet community. (blogs.legacyrecordings.com)
    • Conceptualized and produced a library of over 30 podcast series built around Legacy Recordings, Sony BMG Masterworks and Masterworks Broadway properties, establishing Sony BMG as the market leader in the music podcast space. Series based around Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, A Chorus Line and Avenue Q have been accessed in excess of 2 million times.
    • Created “60 Second Soundtracks,” an digital video series featuring Sony employees discussing their favorite albums from the catalog. These videos are available on YouTube as well as other streaming services.

  • Sony BMG Masterworks
  • Manager, Interactive Media
  • October 2004 to April 2007
  • • Overhauled Sony BMG Masterworks label website to include search engine optimized artist and product pages that accurately reflect the full catalog of available music. Added relevant content and links for purchase from major retailers, resulting in substantial improvements in site traffic.
    • Coordinated multiple departments tasked with data cleanup and delivery of Sony BMG’s 3700-product classical music catalogue to digital providers in order to ensure physical/digital parity.
    • Developed and executed online marketing strategy for Sony BMG Masterworks artists, as the sole digitally-focused employee during a pivotal growth period for sales in this space, including an iTunes campaign for Yo-Yo Ma's Appassionato which resulted in the biggest first week digital sales of his career to that point. These strategies led to a more than 100% year-over-year increase in overall digital revenue for products released by the label.
