I’m Jennifer, a woman of 26 in central Pennsylvania with a BA in English. Presently employed in retail management and as a freelance writer and editor, I still have so much to embark on my journey. I am a firm believer in formal education, as it feels particularly amazing to have my degree framed on the wall in my office. However, I believe travel can teach you so much more than ever thought possible. Inspiration comes in the most unexpected packages, and can sneak up anywhere at any time.
I have books of poetry I have written dated back to 1998. I started writing fiction when I started college, and I never knew which audience I wanted to touch with my writing. Since I graduated from a school that was primarily future teachers, I began working on a piece of research that centered around public school and the different curricula in English classes for reading and writing quality enhancements for children. In 2004, I began writing a book called “My Heart is Like an Onion” which also partially stemmed from an art class during my undergraduate work.
I couldn’t find an illustrator who could exemplify the book’s meaning, so I began illustrating it myself—a little here, a little there. I have found that there are handbooks available for parents to teach their children about feelings and emotions, but there isn’t a book for children to learn from on their own. My book will be just that—a book children can read, understand, and teach themselves. It will be a good alternative if or when a parent is asked a question they aren’t sure how to answer.
