Jenna Tollerson Does anyone know what Facebook module Brazen Careerist is using? Is it a contrib module from Drupal.org or something homegrown? (Apologies if this has been answered previously).

That is a great writeup. I asked because I have used Facebook Connect in a project and found it to be clunkier than I expected. The secret sauce must really be in the custom code. Brazen is such a great example of what can be done with Drupal!

Ryan Paugh We did something really radical today and stopped featuring blog posts on the sidebar of Brazen. Instead, we're featuring trending discussion because all of the conversations you guys have is where the real value is for anybody trying to build their network. What do you think? Are you happy or sad? Anyone want to punch me in the neck? We want to know...

This site is too much like a self-help book on infinite feedback. I want customers for my flooring business in the Denver Metropolitan area! There, see how easy it is to state your business, and go on? So far, I haven't seen one single person in here who doesn't sound like a patient at a phychiatric clinic. For $60,000 a year I'll cut through the nonsense at your company like Genghis Khan raiding villages in China, if you want to hire me. Like what you hear? It's called "clarity", "sense of purpose", and "maturity", all of which seem to be lacking here. Just say what you mean, and mean what you say, that's all I ask.

peter yaworski okay all, another question for module developers - how did you learn to develop drupal modules? beyond things learning materials (e.g. videos, books). In other words, it's one thing to read/learn about module development, another to actually do it. Did you offer to co-maintain an existing module? Did you dream up a module (if so, how? did you find an idea in a forum or just personal need?)? I'd like to get started but feel like everything's being done / is way too complicated for a beginner.

@thanks zach, just trying to find that golden idea that fits my experience level...

@jenna, contributing patches is a great call, i really hadn't thought about that, i kept thinking big pie in the sky ideas but that seems like a great way to make incremental steps as i don't have to build the module from scratch... thanks!

Zachary Stark Jones: Just don't get too wrapped up in what's "golden" then - just make something that's useful to you, and make it in a way that benefits others, too. ...MoreJust don't get too wrapped up in what's "golden" then - just make something that's useful to you, and make it in a way that benefits others, too. Believing in your own ideas is the first step - but truly 'golden' things will be recognized as such by the bigger community. @Jenna's comment is good; my first 'module' was done this way.

Sid Trying to get back in the Web Dev game. Have people who want simple sites done, my graphic skills lack. Tips on where I should start at? Utilize templates? Learn specific languages? Photoshop tutorials? Point me in the right direction!

So my advice would be to look at sites (or even artwork, architecture, nature, whatever inspires you) and take note of what you find visually appealing, then figure out what's attractive about it. When you know what you want your designs to look like, experiment with the software to see how you can achieve it, and search for specific tutorials when you get stuck or if you need a particular effect.

Sounds a bit fuzzy, I know, but "training your eye for what looks good" and "practice" are the best tools I can recommend.

Demo Userz When reading replies to a post, only the first 2 lines are shown. In order to view rest of the text, I have to click more. In http://www.brazencareerist.com/network/resume-feedback , I am reading the replies to Maura V. Pingor pos: "Here I was interviewing a candidate for one of my position..." which has 26 replies. 22 of the replies has the "More" Option.

I just realized that I can click on the time stamp of the original post to the view the conversation on a new page.
It would be useful if those replies are expanded on default.
For people who find it time consuming to go through all of the full replies, they can click on "view # older replies" and can see the slimmed down version of the replies.
Someone like me who wants to see full replies, when I click on the timestamp of the original post, rather than showing slimmed version of the replies, show the expanded version.

Jenna Tollerson: I'm on board with this. I too like reading all of the replies, and having an option to expand all the replies in the thread would be awesome.

Jeremy I'm volunteering for a small non-profit in desperate need of a new website. The website content will be maintained by non-technical staff that probably shouldn't be allowed access to edit all of the code. Has anyone found a good solution for this? Any good frameworks out there to develop a site myself?

If you've got product manageent/e-commerce requirements, Drupal's a great, very flexible choice. However, if getting it up fast is the most important thing, it's also worth looking into Joomla, as it's a bit more "pick up and play" than Drupal.

Nige Parkin I have developed an ecommerce site over the past 4 or 5 years, http://www.minxeveningwear.co.uk and as my skill levels improve I try and enhance the site further. Believe it or not the category and product pages are all static with some dynamic content being puled, stock availability etc. I desperately need to migrate this site into a catalog of some sort but I don't want to lose the page templates that I currently use. I wondered if there was a way to do this?

You might want to check out Magento, which is super powerful as shopping carts go, but in my experience is very difficult to theme. I myself use Drupal and Ubercart, which is easier to theme, and I feel easier to use for an admin, but features-wise doesn't pack the same wallop.

Jason H. Parker Does anyone use iWeb as a design tool for their website? I'm familiar with the program, but sure could use a lot of support. Also, I'm trying to understand how I can upload a site I've built with iWeb to my newly registered domain name. I'm trying to launch a personal/professional site by June 1 and need to figure out these details.

As a more practical tip, if you write any code at all (which I don't expect you'll be doing a ton of but nonetheless) comment it really well, for yourself.

I think it might also be because of a whitespace before the <?php opening tag (not sure).
