Jay Neely In a blog post I've been working on, I've attempted to list the main things social media managers spend time on: - Responding to comments, complaints, and brand mentions - Finding and sharing content with their audience - Engaging influencers and others in the company’s target market in conversation - Growing the channel (twitter followers, facebook fans, blog readers) - Creating / sourcing original content - Tracking & reporting results Any additions / suggest changes?

Jay Neely Hey everyone, I love the group's insights for general social media marketing, but wanted a group where people who are specifically managing a brand / business account's social media presences could talk about their unique challenges. Just created it: http://www.brazencareerist.com/network/social-media-managers -- hope you'll join if you're a social media manager, or would like to become one!

Jay Neely It's interesting to watch brands experiment with Pinterest. By all accounts, it's a huge driver of traffic if you're a content producer that includes high-quality imagery in your content. If you're wondering how brands are using it, this is a really nice round up of over 250 examples in a wide diversity of industries: http://socialfresh.com/brands-on-pinterest/

Ryan Paugh Even though I'm currently living in Madison, WI I'd really love to move back to the East Coast soon to be near more friends and family. I've sold my girlfriend on the idea of coming with me. Her first pick is somewhere in North Carolina. My first pick is somewhere in/around Boston, MA. She thinks Boston is too cold + doesn't have enough of an artsy scene. I guess I'm not really sure. I figured I'd leave it up to the experts. Any thoughts guys?

Edward Antrobus I recently started a new company doing ebook file conversion and publishing. The conversion aspect I started 10 months ago but never had any customers. Last month I relaunched adding the publishing side. So far I've signed on author had made one sale. What I need help with is the marketing, to get the word out, but I only have ~$25/month I can put towards the effort. I need to find somebody who can do the marketing and advertising on that budget.

The long answer: Any software-based conversion tool is going to be inherently limited in producing quality output by how close the input file resembles what the programmer coded for. The less formatting the source, the better looking the final product.
I'm a big fan of Calibre, I use it to manage my own library, and it does a decent job of converting files from one ebook file to another. If I get a Kindle book for my personal library, I'll use Calibre to turn it into an epub. But it tends to fall down on the job on odt/rtf files (it doesn't support doc files as an input file). Even Amazon's own conversion tool won't produce a file that Amazon will accept if the source file isn't just so.
If somebody wants a file that is going to look right on readers screens, will validate on validation tools, and will be accepted by ebook retailers then work and knowledge has to go into formatting the source document. That's 90% of what I do. And if you're not familiar with the rules, it can take a lot of time. The first ebook I ever did, it took me 10 hours to get right.

Noel, Any company that has a "zombie" level of service desserves some consideration. I'll have to look into them more. Thanks for the link!

Ryan Paugh Hey guys -- I'm heading to Cape Cod on Saturday but not before I have a quick lunch in Boston to show my girlfriend around the city. I'd eventually love to live in Boston someday and I want to convince her to come with me. If I only have a 2-hour window to show her around what would you recommend that I do?

I ended up not having a ton of time in Boston so we went to Quincy Market and hit up the Oyster House for dinner. It ended up being great because there was a lot of different things going on and my girlfriend loved it.

I'm definitely going to try to come back out to Boston soon to visit some friends and get my girlfriend acquainted with the softer side of Boston. Quincy Market wouldn't be one of our normal hangouts if I lived out there.

Any ideas?

Jay Neely Could you prevent picture-less users from having their icons displayed in the "Members" preview of a group? It's really unfortunate how many Brazen members don't have profile photos, and I suspect it sends a very negative signal to people evaluating a group when it looks like half of the members are anonymous and likely inactive.

Megan & Valerie: Sorry for the very late reply!

What I found out, is what Ryan also suggested; It really depends on how much marketing budget you want to spend for your blog and if you think it really is worth it. For a personal blog, I really don't feel the cost-value ratio would be good enough to start paying for clicks in this case. For a online product store, the payoff might be worth it, but "just" for a blog - I don't personally feel it's a deal worth trying.

Hope this helps a bit! :)

Running a CPM ad targeted at only a few thousand people will give you high saturation, and lead to all the clicks you can get with that ad (trying different ad photos / text is a must), very quickly for very little cost.
