James Reid Hey guys, my designer is working on a logo for my blog, and the URL of my website is StartingFantasyLineup.com. I love being able to brand my website as SFL given it is about the NFL. The similar style acronym of the major sports organizations was a huge plus and would be incredibly easy to remember, but I don't know how to balance that and the URL recognition that i'll need at least early on to get more repeat customers. Any advice is appreciated, or articles on using an acronym in branding?

They have some very strange rules when it comes to IP and sports.

James Reid Hey guys so I am a fantasy football blogger and Have received a fair amount of feedback about not having any visual content on my website. For some time we have been discussing the value that pictures and video would add to my blog. My concern is that at what level am I guilty of copyright infringement? I would love to be able to show a video of game highlights but am not interested in tangling legally with the NFL! also, cant find a place to apply for "expressed written consent of the NFL" =/

I work with the NFL a bit and have found that they don't actually own most of the imagery and footage - unless they shot it themselves. I know that streaming footage from games infringes on the broadcaster. Stills can be bought through Getty, AP and the like. Surf around and see what others are doing is my best advice. Good luck!

Brad Templeman Hey, I joined a few weeks ago, but this is the first thing I've written here. I started blogging last year, with a site I started that evolved into http://www.baseballindepth.com/. I update it much more during the baseball season, but I have been finding enough material in the offseason. It's pretty heavy on stats, but I have tried to write it in a way that's accessible to everyone.

They just don't provide you information, they wrap it in a story.

I would wrap your passion for baseball into an authentic story that your inviting us (the reader) to join in.

Stanley Lee: Relating to Paul's suggestion, what about selling the analogy of buy low sell high relating to fantasy baseball?

James Reid Ok, so as your feedback was suggesting something that was in the planning stages. I am hoping to find a couple people that have a passing interest in Football (or none at all that is fine too, just not in-depth knowledge) who would be willing to help me with my beginner's guide. All I need you to do is highlight any questions you still have after reading it and tell me what is explained well already. Thanks in advance... email me at bigjim@startingfantasylineup.com

James Reid we considered lots of things, but with future success in mind we wanted something that we could brand as football now, but also use to brand a network for many sports... SFL or StartingFantasyLineup came to mind as we were about to buy another domain name and we fell in love with it right away.

James Reid Does anyone have any insightful articles or comments on viral video marketing. I was thinking of making a series of YouTube ads to promote my fantasy football blog and want to know what type of results are reasonable to expect. thanks!

Ryan Healy Hey guys, my buddy started a site that's a spin on fantasy football. It's like a cross between standard gambling (with fake money) and fantasy football. Check it out http://www.fangamb.com

James Reid Hey there, new to this network and loving it so far... wondering about the effectiveness of a nick name for personal branding. My name is Jim and I am 6'6'' tall so Big Jim has been my nickname for a long time. I carried this over to my blog and am not sure if I have done so effectively. Also my URL does not mention my name at all which I like but I am wondering what you all think? Let me know what you think. http://blog.startingfantasylineup.com

This doesn't mean you have to necessarily include this in your blog's name, but include your name in your blog posts. Relevant content, especially positive content, that links back to you is essential to rise your results when searched.

It's really up to you if you want to use a nickname for your personal brand. It's your personal brand and it's what employers and colleagues will see when they search you.

Thanks in advance!

Also I kind of missed photos and illustrations - for newbies I think having visual clues will be a great support for arousing their imaginations.

Devin Cowens Hi All! I'm new to the site and stumbled upon this network and am liking what I've been reading so far! I started a blog in August to update family and friends about my life after college working for a non profit in a big new city (Los Angeles). I am fairly new to the blog world but am wondering where a good place is to get tips on how to take my blog to the next level. I'm thinking of starting a different one (since mine is focused on my current job) once I move to DC this summer. Any tips?

If you are thinking of starting new, I would go self-hosted at place like http://mediatemple.net (they support single click install of WordPress). So think of a domain, surf over media temple or another service and spend $20/month.

Don't accept a new client unless you really feel you can be successful working with them. And as Jenny said look for start-ups with small budgets to get started yourself. good luck!
