Ryan Paugh Even though I'm currently living in Madison, WI I'd really love to move back to the East Coast soon to be near more friends and family. I've sold my girlfriend on the idea of coming with me. Her first pick is somewhere in North Carolina. My first pick is somewhere in/around Boston, MA. She thinks Boston is too cold + doesn't have enough of an artsy scene. I guess I'm not really sure. I figured I'd leave it up to the experts. Any thoughts guys?

Many Director level and higher positions require a gradate degree to even be considered. Furthermore, Grad school gives people who aren't social butterflies a means to make great connections with other professionals.

On the other hand, with Web 2.0 becoming the standard instead of the "new thing", it is certainly possible to forge your own career path and forgo the grad degree.

It's generally agreed that unless you go to a top school (some defines that as top 4, some top 5, some top 10, some top 30. I don't think anyone defines it outside top 30), it's a waste of money. Waste of money in term not only tuition, but also opportunity cost in term of lost income. But, if you get financial assistance, that also helps the equation. (Some field requires an MBA to advance...)

Doing the tough things no one wants to do (or doesn't think to do because it's "outside of their job description") secures your place in the workplace, and leads to great possibilities and fulfillment. JR Moreau How much do recruiters influence employers when seeking new hires? Do they just deliver the candidate and relay information or do most recruiters take an active role in vetting candidates?

This means I am constantly communicating with them, even when they don't have opened jobs. And that is what I like about Corporate Recruiting: I get to develop a business relationship with my internal clients, because I get to support them for long periods of time. They seek my advice, I seek theirs, we network candidates back and forth, and I attend their townhalls or senior meetings so I can learn more about their business. So bottom line, I have to say I take a very active role!

Kenji Crosland I live in a rural area about 2.5 hours from Seattle. Ever since I moved from Tokyo to live with my folks and regain perspective on where I wanted to take my career, I've found opportunities to network and make connections very limited. I'd like to move to Seattle to promote my web app and perhaps work for a startup company. Any ideas for a rural escape plan? Or can I get all my networking done from my computer at home? For me, it's much easier to network in person than online.
