Julie Ferris I am trying to relocate to Seattle and am trying to 1) build my network there (find me on LinkedIn) and 2) am applying to great companies with good community relations...I'm an experienced communications professional with teaching, writing, broadcast and PR experience and am currently working in the government sector implementing use of social media and disseminating legislative policy. I'm looking for management roles in internal or external communication, marketing or PR.

I know it's a competitive field as well, but it's been much more difficult than I expected. Even with networking, I haven't really met anyone that's hiring or knows of anyone hiring. Not losing hope though!

Ryan Paugh The whole nomad lifestyle has always intrigued me and I've talked about it here before. Today I read a post (http://bit.ly/9Bfyhz) from a Brazen blogger who is living the nomad life and they brought up an interesting thing that I have always wondered about: What do nomads call home? I think that we all require a "home" on some level even if it's just a cafe you frequent to sit down and write. So I'm wondering: How do all of you nomads out there find your feeling of home?

For me at least it is hard to pinpoint one place I call home. I started my life in the UK, lived most of it in various places around the US, have traveled/worked in West EU for over a decade and now live/work in East EU. My personal and work life have taken me to many places and I honestly don't consider just one as 'home'. I don't really feel the need to belong permanently. It is at best, wherever my heart is still and my head rests for that given journey in life. This is probably why i love the LIfe (location independent work life).

I just got back from a vacation with my girlfriend and my parents and that felt like home even though were staying in a condo that wasn't ours. When I'm with the people that matter to me, I'm the most relaxed and comfortable. Sounds like home sort of means the same thing to us, Rhonda.

I do understand that some people keep their FB page/profile as private as possible. And you right it might seem "spammy" if you flood your friends with likes that you dont actually like and fans update that you are not actually a fan of.

But I also understand that some of us here use our own personal pages for both personal and professional interaction.

After all, the tribes that we build can actually start from the people that we actually know. Take for example, when your close friend or friend within your network knows that you have your own ad agency, isnt it but natural for them to refer people to you? A source of recommendations? That could be very beneficial for your business. You should start out with your own circle if you want to succeed.

@Lindsay, Kristina Thanks :) Added and Liked.

Juha Liikala Hey, would be great to introduce ourselves to others in this group. 1. Where are you from? 2. What's your work situation now (working for a company, working for yourself, something else?) 3. Your ideal work situation - If there would be ONE THING, you'd have to do for the rest of your life as "work", what would it be? (In other words, what are you passionate about and would like to earn money from doing)? 4. Just a curiosity: Have you read the 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss?

2. I work as a freelancer helping non-profits and small businesses use web technology to make more money, and gain more recognition.

3. Understanding a smaller organizations problems, finding solutions that don't require a lot of revenue, then implementing the solutions. Then move onto the next organization.

Rebecca Thorman I came from the non-profit world and now work for a start-up. I love my job, but lately I've been itching to do more on-the-ground grassroots type work. Like two positions ago, I raised money for a food pantry and got to meet the people I was helping every day. I miss that. I job-hop to find more meaning in work... but I don't want to hop from this job for a variety of reasons. I still feel conflicted though. How do you find more meaning in your job or side projects? (beyond volunteering).

I frequently turn down clients if I don't believe in their mission; and I frequently take on clients for FAR less money because i do believe in their mission.

Best way to do what you want, make money, and find meaning in what you do; start your own business and make your own decisions.

@Rebecca - based on your blog following alone, I'm sure you could get a lot of business.

I don't have your following and I don't even have time to put up a website, but am good at what I do and based on word of mouth...I'll make more money this year than when I was a SVP at a Fortune 100 company...and more importantly...I believe in everything I do and find meaning in everything I do.

Take a risk...you're only young once. I'd be happy to help out ( ;

The immense size of the company does not allow for any kind of one-to-one interaction with anyone at google. So, when they "shut down" your account as a result of anything, you're SOL.

Allie Brosh from Hyperbole and a Half (probably the funniest blog I've ever read in my life) would be the one who put it most significantly recently:

"My AdSense account was just disabled for "generating invalid activity" even though I have not done anything wrong. I will not be paid any outstanding balances. This essentially just took away 80% of my income."

Currently I am running ads on one regularly updated site (www.postmarkedlove.com) and the rest of my sites I put into CashParking at Godaddy. None of them are really doing anything though. I would love to get adsense to a point of a second income. That would be a major step towards location independency!
