Seeking the proverbial "foot in the door" entry-level position in the areas of cross-cultural communication and/or conflict resolution with a non-governmental organization or non-profit in Washington, DC requiring excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and flexibility.
Undergrad coursework focused on globalization, global trends in communication, politics and other areas, Middle East politics, and Arabic language skills. Work on my love of public speaking and small group dynamics was integral to my studies.
My study abroad experiences, in Egypt and the Czech Republic, reinforced the trends learned in the classroom, gave me many practical insights, and whetted my appetite for further professional travel. As societies with similar experiences of brittle authoritarian stability, one current, one nearly two decades past, they were fascinating case studies. Interning with the IRC gave me an appreciation for the complexities involved with the human side of any international issue and began to show me how to engage with populations affected by conflict.
Tutored refugee and other youth in various subjects at Crawford High School. Brainstormed with and inspired students in the writing of college scholarship essays. Assisted with small group work and other classroom management in ESL classes
Organized approximately 200 confidential patient files at the Southeast Mental Health Clinic. Pulled files for doctors and refiled them after use. Maintained daily operating procedures.
