As Gutsy Writer, I believe life is too short to postpone your dreams, and excuses don't belong in my vocabulary. Though I don't do crazy things like jumping out of airplanes or climbing Mt. Everest, I do like to think of Gutsy options in life.
Perhaps being born in Denmark, uprooted to Nigeria, nurtured in Paris, educated in Britain and transplanted to the U.S., contributes to my flexible thinking.
I even met my husband in a Gutsy way: through an ad in a Singles magazine twenty-five years ago, before Internet dating became popular. We have three sons, 23, 20 and 16.
My Memoir:
FREEWAYS TO FLIP-FLOPS: How our family healed on a tropical island, is ready for publication.
In 2004, we were a family in turmoil. We sold everything we owned and made a Gutsy move from Orange County, California, to Belize, in Central America.
Why? To heal the entire family. My husband and I wanted to:
* Rescue our sixteen-year-old defiant teenager from peer pressures.
* Escape materialism, grid-locked freeways, and entitlement attitudes.
* Teach our three sons a new set of values, especially gratitude.
* Live a simple life.
Our year in Belize transformed my family in unexpected ways.
