I think we are becoming hyper-aware of choices we've made and choices we've yet to make.

The quarter-life crisis is when you wonder if you are going to regret the decisions and compromises you are now making later in life.
I also don't see QLC as being particularly new. My mother once admitted that she dreaded her 25th birthday more than any other than her 40th. I had mine as a I approached my 28th.
