Sagar Kumar hey all I am a Sophomore in Mechanical engineer at UF; but I am changing my major to Computer Sc I like Math but I didnt like Calc3. I liked physics 1 but physics 2 wasnt that great. I know I like logic and reasoning, but when it gets too intense like in calc, i dont like it. I am just not sure if I will be able to do comp sc or not any suggestions plz!

Every major is going to have a couple of tough or weed out classes. In general if you like mechanical systems more than computers ... do that. And vice versa. If you don't like CS and you do it "for the money", you'll be disappointed when you graduate. Pick the Major you like most, study hard, get tutors, join a study group, bug the professors, etc. You'll be fine.

Elyse Savaki I'm new to Atlanta (and the Brazen Careerist) and am navigating and learning both as quickly as possible. I'm a sales professional, addicted to learning about and utilizing social media as much as possible. I also make a hobby of event sponsorship sales. Any recommendations for in-person ATL professional groups?

Kevin Grote I just graduated in December from Miami University (OH) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The job I was banking on dried up. Does anyone have any suggestions about online resources for finding entry-level positions. Most interested in South-west/West-coast/Mid-west locations.

Kevin,
monster, career builder, indeed, etc. are the minimum that you need to be signed up for, but most will tell you that the best way to get a job is your network. Join your alumni at networking events, go volunteer ... Also, if you are at all flexible, don't limit yourself by geographic location. This is because most industries are going through rapid changes. For example ... who would have thought that Detroit would dry up like this? On the other hand hybrid tech is taking off.

If you've not co-oped or interned, you probably don't understand how to run an effective meeting, how important it is to build and maintain a network, how to influence without authority, how to be responsible with money without your parents or a Stafford loan helping, or what "leadership" truly means. So unless you have a specific plan (Be a chef, be a lawyer, be a professor, be a dentist), I would not continue to amass degrees just to ride out the economy. I could say more ... but you should read Penelope Trunk's entries about law school or getting an MBA ... she's much more eloquent than I am.
