Although Gavin Tollman currently lives in Geneva, he still maintains strong ties to South Africa, the country of his birth. This was clearly expressed at The Travel Corporation's (TTC) International Sales Conference which was held in Cape Town, South Africa, in October 2010. At this event the South African Tourism board, together with TTC, announced the creation of a joint venture aimed at making South Africa a tourist destination of choice. In his role as chairman of TravCorp SA, Tollman stressed TTC's commitment to South Africa and its intention to mobilize its "unparalleled strength of reach, expertise, service, and experience across the globe for the benefit of [Tollman's] homeland."
Further evidence of The Travel Corporation's contribution to South Africa can be seen in the positive social and business impact made during the conference. Working in cooperation with the Amy Biehl Foundation, delegates to the conference from all TTC group companies built 21 small homes around Cape Town that were donated to local disadvantaged families. According to Tollman, the project touched the lives of the conference delegates as well as the recipient families.
Gavin Tollman was born in South Africa in 1963 into a family well entrenched in the travel and tourism industry. Gavin himself started his career in the hotel business with the Buckhead Hotel Management Company, where he served as an executive vice president responsible for the daily operations and management of the hotel.
Gavin Tollman moved over to the tourism part of the industry and became president of Trafalgar Tours, USA. Over the years, he grew the company into becoming one of the largest US operators of European Tours. Trafalgar Tours is part of The Travel Corporation group that offers a broad range of tourism packages for travelers of all ages and budgets.
Gavin Tollman has held a number of positions in TTC, including responsibility for five brands operating out of the USA and Canada, and global head of sales of Trafalgar tours, until ultimately reaching the top in May 2010 when he became chief executive officer, responsible for all company operations including sales, performance and new product development. At the same time he also became chairman of TTC South Africa.
Tollman graduated from The American University in Washington DC with a degree in Finance, and is also a Certified Travel Counselor (CTC). The latter certification was obtained from the Travel Institute.
