Farida Harianawala Is there any right or wrong way to use Twitter? I'm hosting a FREE giveaway on my blog - a copy of Real-time Marketing and PR or Unmarketing for one lucky winner (picked at random, must be a current U.S. resident) who leaves a comment on my latest post and shares their Twitter tips or Twitter success story: http://www.socialmediaprism.com/2011/01/how-do-you-use-twitter.html I'd love for fellow Brazen Careerists to participate!

Twitter acknowledges they have issues with messages and Tweets, so rather than risk information not reaching everyone, I'm going to Facebook and/or Twitter.

Farida Harianawala I just wrote an article on the shifting notions of online privacy: http://bit.ly/gMslfk It's interesting to see how social media has changed our perception of what is private. It's almost impossible, these days, to maintain complete privacy even if you don't participate in social media. How has social media changed your own perception of privacy? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Sabera (Kapasi) Photographer Can you give me some tips on planning a twitter chat? The goal is to answer people's Indian food related questions. So the chat will be one where people ask questions (to me and another moderator) and we'll answer them. Another objective is to generally meet people interested in Indian food. What is the best way to manage a chat while meeting these goals, without letting the chat go totally out of control? Where do I begin with the planning?

Ryan Paugh Have you ever paid attention to a Twitter ad? And by Twitter ads I mean the promoted trends and tweets that show up on Twitter's homepage and on specific searches. I've never thought twice about them and I just read in AdAge that they actually get a good return. 5% click through compared to 1% with traditional ads. Interested in what you guys think of this ...

Farida Harianawala A question for social media consultants. As part of your work for clients, do you manage their FB page/Twitter profile etc. on an ongoing basis? Or do give them a strategic plan for managing & using social media, set up these profiles, get them going for a bit & then hand them over to the client to take over? I understand this would depend on what the client wants, but which approach do you think works better? Also, how do you estimate time involved & a fee for your services?

Maybe I should. I think the problem is two fold 1. Customers hear these over the top success stories about companies who use Social and get incredible results - What they don't hear is what goes into the campaign behind the scenes 2. Companies don't understand how to use it or how it relates to their business process. This leads to them not seeing value in it which is difficult to get around. By creating tools to integrate it into their business process they can understand how to use it more and see the value. I use the same strategy that I used when I was just starting out. At that point businesses didn't see why they needed to be online if they didn't have an ecommerce store. I had to create a strategy that integrated the web into their business model.

Our focus is more on PR and we provide materials more in that area than handling social media updates. I do have a freelance client who I provide social media support for and I handle everything for him. I set everything up, write two blog posts per week, manage Twitter and Facebook updates, and monitor mentions. The nice thing is I get a monthly retainer for that and it's mostly stuff I can plan ahead for and pre-schedule, which is nice.

I think social media skills can be taught in the classroom but only to a certain extent.
The media and tools used in business can be taught and then it's up to the student to engage and stay current with the field and its technology.
I think the social aspect of social media which includes the interaction with other people, identifying trends and implementing programs with success, etc. is the make or break component that is usually learned in the school of hard knocks (or not at all).
