About Me

I am a Communication Specialist, Social Media Maven, Consultant, Educator, and Mentor. I love media, communication and writing. I am passionate about how each works together, and independently. I have a passion for the way people have to work with and negotiate communication and media to benefit themselves personally and professionally. I’ve studied all forms of communication, including: traditional and social media, rhetorical, and visual communication. I also have educational training in public relations, public speaking, organizational and interpersonal communication. I earned my B.A. degree at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI and my Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA. I have taught a number of courses at colleges and universities in both Pittsburgh and Columbus, OH.

In addition to the work I do within higher education, I also enjoy working with non-profit organizations, school districts, and small business. I enjoy helping each to manage, leverage, and negotiate social media, organizational communication, community building, and recruitment efforts. My work in this arena includes: The Girl Scouts of America, Ohio’s Heartland Council, Groveport Madison School District, and Carried the Bag: Business and Sales Coaching. I am also a wife, mother, sister, and friend. I have a great husband, son, dog and a cat. In my leisure time–when I can snag some–I enjoy working out, playing board games and the Wii, hiking in the local metro parks, attending church, seeing live music and drinking coffee, lots and lots of coffee. I always have fun watching my son play soccer and now basketball. The parents involved in these organizations are people with great spirits and hearts. I love visiting with my extended adopted and bio family, located throughout Michigan, as well as Pittsburgh, Chicago, California, Louisiana, and Florida. My immediate family and I are originally from Flint, MI. We have settled in the Columbus, OH area for the time being.
