Jon Bishop If you weren't using WordPress MU before will you use it now that it is built into WordPress 3.0? Do you think more people will start offering free blog setup on the Mu platform like http://blogetery.com and http://wordpress.com?

The merge of the two codebases was done to eliminate maintenance of a second set of code that was nearly identical to WP Core, not to encourage greater adoption. I expect that WP Multisite will continue to occupy a small sector of the WP landscape, largely in institutional settings and among a small collection of service providers like those I mentioned.

Cameron Plommer Continued... I would find them internships to apply for, contact the employer for more information, help them craft a cover letter and resume, email their professors for references, whatever they need really. What do you guys think about this idea? Sound viable or no? I was thinking of just putting up a post in craigslist and see how it goes. Any ideas for charging for the service?

Cameron Plommer: Thanks for all the input everyone. I really think there's something here. Any thoughts on how to charge for this service?

Hey Cameron,

Being a current intern (for the second time in DC) I definitely think that there is a market, but it is going to take a lot of networking on your behalf in order to get "in" with some of the top internship programs.

It sounds like you want to set yourself up as a consultant. I'd like for similar positions to compare rates.

Good luck.

Cameron Plommer I just got my wordpress.org self-hosted blog up about a month ago. I am wondering if there are some "must-have" plugins that people recommend. Also in the Atahualpa theme, I'm trying to figure out how to change the header image. I would also like help figuring out how to design a cool logo and using it as an icon as well. Any Helpers Out There?

You will need to change the HTML/PHP code in your Atahulpa template. If you need more detailed step-by-step help with it, feel free to message me.

That being said, many people aren't interested in the mundane and often-daunting tasks associated with maintaining a self-hosted WordPress installation. For those individuals, the free WordPress.com solution or a service such as Page.ly are better options. The latter does let users install plugins and themes, providing a greater degree of flexibility and customization.

Zack Zaban Any advice for a college student looking to start a Wordpress.org blog? I want to move away from my past blog on tumblr and use the Wordpress platform for more flexibility. However, I am on a small budget and need to find a host that won't eat away at my milk money (sorry for the bad humor).

Choose Advanced Mode, ensure that WordPress is selected, then scroll to the bottom and verify the domain selected is where you would like WordPress to be installed. Then click the "Install it for me now!" button to complete the process. You will receive an email in a few minutes once the install is complete. After that, go to your domain to complete the process.

Cameron Plommer So I'm thinking of moving my wordpress blog to self hosted. As a person with little html and css knowledge is this a good idea/how easy is this to do? I want to make more design changes and add plugins, which is the main reason for the change. Can all the necessary information be learned online easy? Also would a premium theme (Thesis) make this easier for a non-techie?

Cameron,

To answer your questions:

1) Only pay for a theme if you have already blogged for a few months and see the potential value. I use Ahatualpa at http://windmillnetworking.com

2) Many webhost providers automatically install WordPress. I use BlueHost. There are a number of others out there as well that you could use.

3 - I use the theme that I do because the options to make changes are there in the "Theme Options" menu without knowing CSS.

4) Correct!

To @Neal's point, many of the themes available in the "Extend" section of WordPress.org include customization panes, but learning a little HTML and CSS can't hurt either. As always, this group is a great place to post questions.

David Anderson, SPHR Ok. I have what is probably a dumb question. But do I need to have Wordpress running from my machine to be able to use the wordpress plugins, like retweet? Or, is their simple code that I can copy and paste into a text widget? Thanks.

Jordy Clements Does anyone include a facebook share button on their blog (http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/share.php)? I see a lot of Retweet buttons, but not facebook. Just wondering if people think they're useful/will bring in traffic, or just add more clutter.

It looks like you guys went a different route, but in case you decide to use them, I think the key to having them both align vertically was adding this css property to the style field in the settings menu: "clear: both". Would love your opinion on how it looks: http://bit.ly/5hqu6T (sorry if that seems like baiting traffic)
