I'm a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and currently reside in Beijing, China as a student making my way through the exhilarating ups and downs of learning Mandarin Chinese.
I arrived in Beijing after a two year post-grad stint as a venture debt analyst at Square 1. There, I worked with two internal groups providing debt funding for start-up technology and life science companies as well as the venture capital and private equity firms that back these groups. After two years I decided to move to China in order to fulfill a dream of working in the middle of one of the most dynamic, fascinating, and contradictory economies in the world.
Step one, of course, is learning Chinese. This has been easily one of the most difficult but rewarding challenges I've undertaken. I plan to transition this knowledge into helping source, manufacture, and transport goods in a more efficient and sustainable way.
As an amateur chef, I've enjoyed the opportunity to eat and later try to recreate some of the country's diverse cuisine.
Finally, I believe that we in the US should not fear China, but instead take it seriously as the future of the so many issues from the economy to ecology will depend on strengthening cooperation between our countries.
