Nicola Reynolds Just read Taichi Yamada's 'Strangers' - can honestly say it's one of the best books I've ever read. Very atmospheric, got swept away into the city surroundings and the feelings of loneliness, compelling to say the least. I was particularly impressed by how the book makes you question the events that take place and whether they are a figment of the central character's imagination or really occurring. And a twist at the end! Am looking forward to reading more of Yamada's work.

Eric: I rather liked "The Housekeeper and the Professor" - Yoko Ogawa. Deceptively simple - very warm feeling to it.

Eric Slowly getting through The Moonstone - Wilkie Collins. Lots of description, slow pace, but interesting. Liked The Woman In White.

Sarah Fowler: I liked The Woman in White too, and purchased The Moonstone a while ago but haven't read it yet. I look forward to getting to it soon!

Eric Another good one is www.japanesepod101.com. Some content is free, you can create an account for free, and there are various levels - beginner, intermediate, and advanced (you pay for beyond beginner level). I'm convinced that bombarding myself with Japanese every day will get me the familiarity I'm seeking with the language.

Eric I've been using Kanji cards. I ordered them from White Rabbit Press: http://www.whiterabbitpress.com/. The tough part is that the characters aren't just the simple ones; they show words using those Kanji, and those are often complicated ones. But I've found that working on them every day is definitely worthwhile.

Check out Chopin's Piano Concertos (I like No. 1 more than the second), but Liszt's Liebestraume No. 3 is an all-time favorite of mine. Currently learning to play La Campanella (the piano version), and boy it does a number on my right hand--watch Yundi Li play it and you'll see why. Are there any songs which invoke deep passionate emotion in you?

I just finished the 5th book in the original Dune saga. One more original, and 13 follow up novels to follow.

Kevin Durbin: Awesome series! I read the original series several years (Decades probably...lol) ago

Eric: Read three or four of the Dune series years ago. I think Dune and Childhood's End are the greatest scifi books ever.

Eric Just started Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - Susanna Clarke. Sister Carrie-great work on vanity of mercantilistic dreaming by the naive.

Meghan Deaver: Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is an interesting book - you have to give it a chance, though. It starts off a bit slow but builds.

Alexa Johnson: I had a friend who gave that to me with such raves, but try as I might, I just couldn't get into it. I'm thinking of trying again...
