I'm curious. How many of you enjoy watching old black and white movies? I've noticed that amongst my peers there's a tendency only to watch movies from the late 70's (or sometimes 80's) and onwards. I suspect this is relates to the age of the people and what movies they grew up watching.

Back again with more questions. I still only have 49 followers. I follow 50 people directly. But via lists, I follow 133 people that I don't follow directly. I am thinking most of you would say that I am more likely to expand my useful network if I followed people instead of just listing them. But my fear is an uber-cluttered feed. I guess I just can't decide when someone would be worth putting in said feed, even though I find them interesting enough to list. Any advice?

Don't worry too much about a cluttered feed. Lists are a great thing. Create and read your own lists to keep your feed organized. That way you can follow whoever you want. I follow 163 people directly and I am not overwhelmed at all. Happy Tweeting!

One of the biggest problems is not so much the number of followers I have, or even the quality. (I follow some good people.) But They are spread to the Four Winds. I am not having much success so far in networking with local people. (Something at which I confess I am not very good in real life so far.) I have several locals on lists, but like some of you mentioned, they are on a test-run, to see if they are worth following full time. I try not to be too "scientific" as some of you have said, but I do want it all to work out. 113 weeks ago

Question on "Follow Friday" etiquette. Do you tag everyone every Friday? Just people who are new from the last Friday? Only people you want? Or is there no real pattern to who should and shouldn't be tagged with #FF?
John E. Bredehoft:
In my view, if someone were listing my handle EVERY Friday, it would begin to feel like spam after a few weeks. 113 weeks ago

I have a personal twitter account, http://www.twitter.com/kristil, where I also post for my professional group. What do you think about separate accounts for personal and prof? I don't think it's necessary, except for news orgs. For friends, I end up following both and getting duplicate tweets. I wouldn't bring a cardboard cut-out to a live mixer to represent my company.Maybe I don't worry as much as a I should about tweeting about a delicious beer and an event within a 20 minute span. :/

First, what if ...MoreThe person who tweets for my professional org has a separate account for her personal stuff, which I think is good for two reasons. First, what if someone else needs to take over the tweeting for your professional group? Everyone who follows your professional group will need to start following the other person, and you may lose followers. Second, I follow the tweets to find out what my professional org is doing, not what she is doing. You may turn off some followers who are only interested in the professional group. Plus, I agree with Eoghann Irving that some stuff for your friends would not be appropriate for the other group, and you may not want to self-censor that much. 116 weeks ago

I guess my philosophy is that I won't be having certain conversations online under any guise. Twitter is a certain audience and purpose for me--making friends with technical communicators and the people that hire them. And Tampa Bay bloggers. :) That means I reveal some personal things, but I mostly avoid religion and politics unless I'm tweeting a resource or expressing about my day. This is just like work, I think. Facebook is a bit more revealing as far as my opinions and whatnot, but there's family and close colleagues there, and if anyone cared enough to dig dirt they could find me there. So I'm not going to get "ugly" online anywhere. Who wants to be ugly anywhere? I'm going to be myself everywhere. I don't have time to worry that "myself" is not ok with someone. I don't want to deal with that someone, anyway. I don't disparagingly of my employer or organization or give away proprietary info ANYWHERE--that's not in MY best interest.
By having one account, I am avoiding overhead and maximizing the benefit of making authentic, transparent connections. The fact is, I'm deeply involved in our organization, and if you don't like me, it's not going to be fun to connect with us.
That's a good point about when someone else takes over. I'll direct followers to that person and remain a champion for the organization. For now, I don't think that challenge outweighs the benefits of keeping one account. 115 weeks ago

So V will be back on our screens at the end of March. Is anyone still looking forward to it? I was really excited when I heard they were bringing it back last Fall, but I wasn't exactly blown away by the 4 episodes they aired.

The first 4 episodes felt rushed, but they were finally building to something. And then they put it on hiatus for months. Now it's coming back, but by all accounts it's been re-tooled and has a new show runner. So I'm not sure exactly what we're going to get. I'd probably say give it an episode and see how you feel. 116 weeks ago

Greetings. I am actually newer to Twitter than I am to BC. In fact, I only started the Twitter thing 9 days ago. I am still skeptical, and a tiny bit confused about it. I haven't quite gotten anything out of my experience yet. (I have gotten twice as much out of BC.) But I'm joining this network to see if it becomes any clearer. Or to perhaps confirm my suspicions. Either way, I am on Twitter at TyUnglebower. Thanks.

I would say that you can't expect people to just WANT to follow you because they found your name. How do you expect people to even find you on twitter? Are you putting your name out in the world? Are you commenting on items others are discussing? Quick way to network would be to join some twitter chats and be interesting. People will engage with you if you are interesting. 116 weeks ago

Very conflicting views on Twitter. I have from the start tended to agree with Mr. Irving. It is not panning out to be very effective for networking. Any advice on tweeting for business? Is it necessary to have 2 Twitter accounts? I have one that's personal + business (as 90% of my waking hours are devoted to matters that affect me as an entrepreneur) and one that's for the team to use strictly as a biz tool, but I have doubts about having both. What are your thoughts?

I manage two Twitter accounts for my company, plus one work/personal, and one personal. I use HootSuite and it keeps me sane by keeping the accounts in separate tabs, but still together in one window. An added bonus: statistics.
