hey everyone, thanks for joining this conversation. I have recently landed a new job which has brought up a lot of issues surrounding the day job/art balance. Personally I'm loving the challenge and my day job is feeding into and expanding my artwork in new and exciting ways.
What do others think?
How do you cope with the job/art balance, or is it not an issue?

I'm a freelance illustrator and graphic designer, but I find that my work detracts from, instead of enriching or adding to, the fine art I make as a hobby. My illustration style is digital line and fill--90% of my work is with Adobe Illustrator, while my fine art is the opposite--textured, layered, mixed-media. I'm deeply proud of my work, but finding time and energy for my fine art has proven a lot more challenging than I imagined it would back in art school!

Technical writing is a bit ambiguous I think because it encompasses so much. Specifically I am looking at writing user manuals, product instructions (for staff and customers) and documentation.
I have been contributing to the Open Office project and writing artist how-to's to get a bit of practice.
