Based on a conversation on #Brazen today, I've added a Values Statement to my otherwise-empty "About" page: http://bit.ly/aGPOWo

No country, person, or entity should ever be given special dispensation to violate human rights. Period.

Since when is admitting you don't have all the answers a bad thing?

If you're putting yourself out there as a social media-savvy brand, it should not take 10 days and 5 negative tweets before you respond to a customer complaint.

No one taught me how to walk; I watched, tried, fell, tried again. The same is true for social media: no one can teach you to be great at it, but if you watch and read, try and fail and keep trying, you can become golden.

Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, try finding new, innovative ways to use new media like 4SQ for a B&M business. Example: offer the Mayor of your business a 10% discount if with proof of 4SQ mayorship.

Creating a Network in MySpace is like opening a new, posh boutique in Camden, NJ or Detroit, MI: you COULD do it if you wanted, but why would you? MySpace is the ghetto of social networking -- even teens and tween devotees have moved to Facebook.

I find it bizarre that so many workplaces spend so much time and energy blocking employees from "time wasting sites" such as Facebook or Twitter, especially as Gen Y enters the workplace, because we're more likely to then spend even more time an effort playing with things like Tor to try and skirt those blocking tools, decreasing productivity more than if you'd just let us update our social networks in the first place.

To rebrand my freelance photography business, I conducted a survey to get feedback and ideas from potential customers. In response to the question "If you were looking to hire a photographer, what would be your MAIN factor in choosing a professional?", Years of Experience rated a big, fat 0%. Also, even though the main respondents were Gen Y & Gen X, 0% use Flickr & only 5% use social media sites to find professionals to hire!

I could probably do better with this whole Social Media / Personal Branding trend if I knew who I am. I was the bitterfame girl (the site is gone, but you can find bitterfame.com/journal/ on the Internet Archive: http://www.archive.org/web/web.php ) but am I still that angry, angsty teenager in an adult body, and can I translate that person (who's been using the internet and blogging (online journaling, it was called) since 1996) into my current persona and personal brand?
