Rebecca Thorman I am REALLY excited today because I am officially credit card debt-free! It's all paid off and I'm pretty proud of myself. My next step was going to be to pay off my student loans (which have very low interest rates) or maybe my car (which I think has a 6% interest rate), or instead, re-build my emergency fund and then start donating to my Roth IRA again. What do you all think? Get rid of all debt or save a little first?

This was awesome to read everyone's replies. I sat down with my spreadsheet, worked the numbers and found that I will be able to max out my Roth IRA, fill my emergency fund back up and pay off my car loan completely by the end of next year - so that's the goal. I'll probably do split payments between savings and car loan as many suggested, and then roll over all to savings. Thanks so much again!

We are always looking towards the future and fearing regret. But I do think that puts us in a huge predicament, making us fearful of taking risks and trying things. I think we are becoming hyper-aware of choices we've made and choices we've yet to make.

And, @Spencer, absolutely! Personal freedom and the choice paradox totally are making us nuts! Check out Barry Schwartz on the subject at TED - brilliantly captures why choice is paralyzing us: http://bit.ly/cSnFWC

The quarter-life crisis is when you wonder if you are going to regret the decisions and compromises you are now making later in life.

I also don't see QLC as being particularly new. My mother once admitted that she dreaded her 25th birthday more than any other than her 40th. I had mine as a I approached my 28th. All the sudden I was "almost 30" instead of "mid-twenties." I was approaching an age where you are expected to have produced results and I hadn't.

Elizabeth Williams How I Decide Who To Follow on Twitter: I never check my Followers page on Twitter. I make decisions on a case by case basis as follows: 1. Get new follower email from Twitter. 2. Read their Twitter feed. Is it boring or annoying? Is it just self-promoting tweets, famous quotes, or links to other sites? Is it written in the third person or otherwise annoying? If the answer to any of those is yes, I close the browser window. 3. If you passed the above test, I follow back.

Penelope Trunk What do you think about changing your last name when you get married? I can't believe people do it, actually. I mean, you have an established track record in the workplace by the time most people get married. Why undermine yourself by telling people to call you another name? I have had so much trouble with my own name changes (people googling the wrong name, for instance) I can't believe people bring this on themselves. the practice strikes me as antiquated.

It had a lot to do with forging my own identity.

In a historical sense, surnames used to be a lot more descriptive of a person, which is why most surnames translate into medieval professions, locations, and traits.

Elizabeth Williams Please vote for my photo essay & share: Elizabeth Williams - "Last Days of Alzheimer's and Lee Rainier" http://t.co/CS2FfWw About: In the early hours of July 20, 2010, my grandfather Leland E Rainier died of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was in his 80s and is survived by his wife, Anna. The day before, my husband and I visited my grandfather and grandmother, and I captured the isolation, despair, and fear of my grandmother as she watched her husband of 60+ years drift away.

Elizabeth Williams I'm working on a project for my local fitness studio, and I really want to do a photo like this: http://morfis.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/pretty-in-pink.jpg I've tried long exposures before, but they tend to come out like this: http://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/motion-blur-photograph...

Reminds me of this video from Joe McNally. http://www.nikonusa.com/Learn-And-Explore/Photography-Techniques/fy1hs59...
You wouldn't need the 10 strobes obviously, but the same basic effect of how to get from point A to point B. It is the same idea you had in the photo you posted, it's just a lot of precision - speed of the dancer/shutter speed/amount of light/timing the final shot.

Try to replicate the situation you plan on shooting in - lit room, dark room, use your BF as a model for fun, think of color of clothing, what you can use to keep the model lit before your actual strobe goes off, and practice practice practice. Personally, I would keep it as simple as possible. Keep in mind the shot you want, but be flexible with what the situation gives you.
