Ryan Paugh I hope that everyone is doing alright after the wildfires out there. I just heard that there's another one in Loveland. My fingers are crossed that all of our Brazen members in the area are safe. I'm heading out to Boulder this coming weekend for my birthday. Any ideas on places I should visit? I'm really interested in good food and the outdoors.

Brewery Tours-I would choose Avery above everyone else because of their very unique and wide selection of brews (they even have a barley wine!)

Have fun!

I also suggest taking a hike at Chautauqua Park - you go right up the Flatirons and it's a nice way to spend 3 hours. I also love the Med for lunch - it's been my favorite meal here so far. Happy Birthday!

Lindsey Sparks Have you ever started a new job and hated it? Despite doing a lot of research, asking a lot of questions during the interview process, & knowing my future boss & asking them a ton of questions, my new job is completely different from what I was told. I've addressed the issue several times with my manager & have offered solutions, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. Have you guys ever experienced this? What did you do?

Sometimes you just need to look at your options and make another decision, which may be to resign. At least you know you tried and you can walk away with that life experience.

Elizabeth Raley Being part of a power couple is great - someone who encourages you, understands the career challenges, etc. But I've noticed advice usually is more likely taken outside of the relationship. I know I can tell my husband the perfect strategy, but it may mean more to him if he hears it from a colleague or a superior. And I have his respect, but it's just the reality of it.

I have learned that if he comes to me with an issue that he's struggling with then he wants my take on it which is going to be drastically different than his colleague's. He does the same in return for me. If I don't ask...which I tend not to any way, then he doesn't get involved.

Elizabeth Raley I'm looking for a Q/A web-based tester for junior level position at CastingNetworks.com based in Los Angeles.

114 weeks ago from We're Hiring

Karl Sakas: To clarify - the tester would be web-based (remote/virtual), or the Q/A is regarding a web-based service?

Elizabeth Raley: Web-based service - we need an in-house tester!

Elizabeth Raley Any suggestions on how to track resource allocation? My challenge is that developers and PMs are constantly get moved from one project to the next (not efficient, I know). But I want to track it so we can ultimately fix it!

Jamie Nacht Farrell: MS Project has a function for that if you keep track at the beginning of each project

I had to work on setting up custom fields in the system we use internally (Redmine) after rollout to accommodate the kinds of resource control you are looking for, but it can be done in a multitude of ways depending on -largely- the number of moving parts you are dealing with, and the frequency of the changes.

Alejandra Have you read Clay Shirky's "A Rant About Women"? http://www.shirky.com/weblog/2010/01/a-rant-about-women/ I feel like women could be all the things he says we should be (more like men) but in my experience, it just makes doing your job effectively, and well, much harder. Thoughts?

So while in some cases this may help guys, in others in is actually a detriment.

But right now men are getting laid off at twice the rate of women, women in their 20s are outearning men, and women in their 30s are dropping out of the workforce or downshifting to be with their kids. So I don't think women have a problem that Clay needs to help us with. We're doing what we want, getting paid fairly, and we're doing fine.

Elizabeth Raley We're agile already, but we want to phase it out. Therefore if we have to shelf a project, we at least have something.

I'm a bit confused about the popularity of this methodology... I thought it was becoming big 2-3 years ago and then died down, now it seems to be resurging. We have been using phase methodology for IT development but starting to move towards discrete smaller work packages so kinda Agile, but still an overall project to manage these. (hybrid)

Photis Patriotis: Maybe not TDD but without automated tests you still have to have people testing every release. If you do this weekly, it gets expensive.
