Elizabeth Clawson Does anyone have tips for finding fellow amateur musicians in your home city? I'm trying to assemble a group but have had no luck through Craigslist or anything similar so far. If only I could search for Brazen Careerists who are in both this network AND the Seattle one...but alas, no...

Stanley Lee I have a fair number of technical and personal blogging entries that I want to share. However, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to mix them both in the same blog rather than two separate blogs (even though I know I can do whatever I want). What do you think?

I think I will keep them separate. As the technical material that I want to share is actually fairly technical (or rather not easily understandable). Even Penelope Trunk's comments that she put on her blog (regarding Marian's suggested blog entry) regarding career and life advices are really personal, from what I found.

Besides, to echo what everyone else has said, these are the blogs that are most interesting anyway. I am comfortable with personal blogs as long as I connect it to a larger idea. If I write about a really shitty day, I make sure I link it to something my readers may value.

What helped you get your first nonprofit job?

Have specific, valuable, and unusual skills. The most obvious ones include being a good writer or having a high degree of technical acuity. See this post on how my father did it: http://blog.seliger.com/2007/11/29/they-say-a-fella-never-forgets-his-fi...

I was green--right out of college, but they took a chance on me because of my strong writing skills and passion for the cause: my nephew is liver transplant recipient. I've been part of the team for 7 years now.

Is there a nonprofit that is close to your heart or one whose mission you admire?

Rob Vanasco i have an english education degree with a background in corporate cube life. how do make the switch to PR?

142 weeks ago from PR & New Media

Elizabeth Clawson: I agree with Ceci! If you familiarize yourself with PitchEngine or other free PR tools, you could really help NPs that don't have PR shops.

Rob Vanasco: thanks Ceci and Elizabeth! that's great advice.

Elizabeth Clawson Are most folks in this group professional musicians, or musicians on the side? I'm the latter & interested to hear how others balance it.
