Edward,

I do not know where you live, but joining GiversAlwaysGain.com is free...and so too is the corresponding Linkedin Group (if there is one in your area). Wouldn't hurt to find out. The REAL POWER in the marketplace today is not technology or number crunching - despite the lame behavior of far too many in the HR industry. So, it is up to caring people to go to bat for caring people. And, one great place to look for caring people is within The Business Connection.

Noel Rozny: Interesting question! I see so many LI profiles that are clearly out of date, and I always assume that people update their resume first and LI later.

Reminds me of what I was told by an Alzheimer's caregiver:

"Have Alzheimer's? Meet new people every day! Do new things every day! Experience new things every day! Go new places every day! Have new adventures every day!"

Not politically correct, but given the grim daily life of a caregiver, a little humor is needed.

I apologize if I was not posting a ton on this page, but I knew you were getting the communication in other ways. However, this is my last ditch attempt and I truly hope we get to come together tonight as the community is what makes brazen so great!

Dominique Aubry So I met this really cool girl who was interested in health and I connected her with a friend of mine who works in urban farming ...and while all that was going on , I introduce my talented artist friend to my musican friend and my neighbor to my neighbor and two girls that were both wearing pink... odd how matches are made like that... ohh wait... that hasn't happened yet... thats tonight. See you there!

Timothy Johnson III Do any of you know of a healthcare recruiter in the tri-state area? Specifically, a recruiter that specializes in placing recent Bachelors of Sciences in Nursing graduates? A good friend of mine will have her BSN by the end of August and will be starting her job search. In particular, she wants to find a job in Level 1 trauma center at a large, university-affiliated teaching hospital that has a gateway/training program for new BSN graduates. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is the question you're asking actually, "Am I going to keep doing this new thing, or will I eventually quit doing it, in which case I intend to consider my investment of time and energy a waste?"

Seems kind of funny, phrased that way. My take is that it doesn't matter, especially if you're actually consciously asking the posted question when an interest arises. Sounds to me like you're not really trying to judge the value or quality of the new delight you've found, but rather your own motivations. Something is driving you and you're wondering if it's rooted directly in something significant or superficial reactivity. The interest it represents is a good thing, it's part of real growth and development.

My guess is if you have a genuine interest in something, then it becomes a vehicle for revealing more of what life and self are all about. If your interest is driven by something unconscious, say, an insecurity, a blind attempt to fill a void in your life, or to distract yourself from something that's troubling or painful, then it won't likely sustain or result in any significant benefit. It's like chasing an effect as it trails off in the vain attempt to connect with the cause, i.e, it's not about the thing of interest, it's about your process of "being interested" itself.

Either way, the best thing that can come out of any situation is greater understanding and added depth, and that happens when we bring our full attention to what's really happening.

Dominique Aubry Gretchen: I am an alumni of City Year and I agree with you that the network is lacking. At the central administrative level they can often provide networks and leads however, building viable networks through the alumni group it self is difficult for various reasons. I have managed and participated in many alumni boards. Please let me know if I can be of help in any way. I am also work in workforce development so i am often receiving information on interesting jobs all over the country.

Dominique Aubry There were some requests from the group for a meet up. What do people think about late March or early April? Also any ideas on location, do we want a quiet space, or something a little more rowdy as college basketball will be big at that time.
